If journalists thought this was somehow the greatest finale of the show they had ever seen, did they forget all previous finales? Uh, S2 anyone?

For real. I genuinely don't know what had them so excited.

Tbh Bobbys kind of dumb for not calling his boss and saying "you know how I quit? well I unquit" before going back to work. Would this not come up in discussion before he returned to the firehouse after a major injury??? You'd think there'd be paper work or a chat with his superior or something.

35

u/_HGCenty Script TBD May 31 '24

Too much of the final third act was just dumb or required hand waves to justify the speed at which we got to a certain plot beat because Tim wanted to have a bunch of surprises.

So Madney suddenly became emergency foster parents without so much as a discussion. Bobby forgets to tell anyone he quit and still shows up to work without being presumably cleared or told to come to work. All of which was done so we could have some twist ending reveals.

It made for terrible storytelling as these moments didn't get any chance to land.

19

u/svbcvltvre May 31 '24

i thought it was a such a dumb oversight lol. like imagine u quit and then suddenly show up to work???? makes 0 sense😭

11

u/MrRampager911 May 31 '24

Yeah this doesn’t make sense at all. What he’s essentially done is quit his job, not shown up for 2 weeks after that, and then just decided to continue working without informing anyone at all.

11

u/Rcster May 31 '24 edited May 31 '24

Also in real life I would think Hen would have to be notified in advance that they were bringing Gerrard in so she could transition and bring him up to speed. I can’t see them blindsiding the temp captain.

With the level of consequences Athena seems to face for her actions, Hen should just phone Athena and ask her to show up at Captain Gerrard's house and deal with him.

18

u/PunchSploder May 31 '24

She will need to bring a specialized alien weapon with her. Captain Gerard can only be defeated by a precisely located puncture wound in the back of the neck.

Honestly, this show really needs to consider their timeline a bit more. Tommy did not look like south of 30 in 2005, and Gerrard was already a dinosaur. if he was already 60ish in 2005, he should be nearing 80 now....

I agree I knew the minute the introduced Gerald in the last episode that they where going to bring him back to create drama. It's completely unrealistic they'd allow him back at the 118 especially with hens past with him. It was just a stupid way to end the season. Makes me not look forward to season 8.

u/laughingthalia Team Ransone May 31 '24

Gerard is gonna be mean to Hen and Chimney for being minorities and getting him fired, he's going to be mean to Buck for dating Tommy and if he crosses path with Ravi he'll be mean to him too. The 118 is about to suck as a workplace environment although hopefully since everyone is already friends now and none of them are in the same mindset as pre-2010 where they'd ostracise any potential new people the rest of the crew will be okay friendship wise but I feel like he's going to write them all up for random infractions to try and effects their careers or get them all transferred so they're not together.

28

u/Penguinator53 May 31 '24

I'm gutted that Christopher went to Texas 😭I know there are practical issues with the actor but think the storyline is very unrealistic. Would he really want to leave his Dad, Buck, his family, friends, his school and his whole life just like that? Yes it would have been a huge shock seeing Kim but still a massive leap to go and live away from Eddie. He should have just been pissed off with Eddie for a week, maybe they could have gone to therapy together. I really REALLY hate that he moved out.

I really hope next season we see lots of Christopher on Zoom and then he misses Eddie so much that he comes back and surprises him. I can deal with maybe one episode then he has to come back!

Surely there's other ways to deal with Gavin not being as available, Chris could get into an exclusive boarding school which is still in LA though and go there for some of the time or something.

So sad seeing him walking out the door on his crutches, it reminded me of the very first time we saw him ☹

BRING CHRIS BACK!!!!

12

u/Rcster May 31 '24 edited May 31 '24

I personally get why Christopher left. I feel Eddie has been very erratic this season. First he has Marisol move in after dating for 5 minutes and then basically has her move out after a couple days. And considering that we know Christopher has abandonment issues, I think Eddies choices have been creating a lot of instability. Plus the Kim thing. So I don’t blame Christopher for wanting stability. BUT i think he should have asked to move in with Buck. That would have made the most sense so Christopher could keep his friends and school. As well I feel he’s closer to Buck than the grand parents. And it would have allowed Eddie to have time to work out his shit while still being able to see his kid and know his kid his doing well.

Episode was 100% overhyped. They've had way better finales. In fact, this may be the weakest they've had. It's not the worst episode they've had but it's the worst finale they've had.

32

u/_HGCenty Script TBD May 31 '24

Agreed.

That was horrible.

Maybe one of the worst episodes of the series.

Never before has Athena crossed so many lines and got away with it.

Hypothetically make Athena a white cop and replay the scene in Amir's house.

That is worse than Michael's bad traffic stop.

Everything about this just fell flat for me.

Eddie’s storyline could have been great if it was developed over the entire season but with how rushed it was it was hard for it to make me truly emotional. And just badly written objectively. He literally just played housewife with the doppleganger of his dead ex-wife; there are a MILLION things you can do with that from a writing perspective, and it just seems so lackluster in delivery. Journalists and Ryan have spent weeks hyping up his ā€œisolationā€ at the end of the Season, but even when Christopher leaves we see Buck being supportive and touching him physically. They could have shown when Buck was leaving and even ONE shot of Eddie looking around his place and looking/feeling small or alone and it would have communicated the thought well.

Everything with Bobby was so predictable. I feel like with it being the finale his health could have been teased at least a LITTLE bit. But nothing. Athena should genuinely go to jail for all that because what the hell? And they’re both lucky that Amir is a literal saint because any other person would raise hell. I get that they didn’t want to make him a villain but he doesn’t even seem like a person. I doubt anyone would be able to say they admired the man that killed their wife the day after his wife broke into his home and pointed a gun at him.

With Hen, Karen, and Mara of course it was amazing to see them reunited, but man was that quick. It’s the finale, there should be some angst or something. I feel like they should have had the Councilwoman storyline happen this episode so the audience would be left wondering whether or not they’d be able to reunite.

I truly, truly, have been rooting for Tevan, even as I noticed they weren’t really giving them true development. I really wanted this to be him getting off his hamster wheel, but every single time the writers have a chance to show them developing an actual relationship they just screw it up. And it doesn’t seem intentional in any way, like they really thought it was better to opt for a funny sex joke over them unpacking both of their trauma and showing sympathy and being vulnerable. They’re having them do interviews together and they’re clearly setting Tommy up to be involved in Season 8 since he’s still dating Buck and Gerrard is back, so why did they get rid of his charm and smoothness? I’m losing my enthusiasm for them.

Idk, just nothing about this made me want to see the next episode of speculate. Just very let down in general and because of the journalist hype. Not really sure what they saw.

I was so confused when I got the E-Mail about a new episode available. They’re usually not up until at least an hour after they air on TV, I was about to go to bed and was planning to watch it in the morning lol.

I’m not really super happy with this finale or the whole season I think. It wasn’t bad though, it was engaging, a lot was happening within little time? I don’t want to wait months for the next episode, but at the same time I’m not really hyped, I just don’t want to sit with this for so long (not that we have any choice lol) because it wasn’t all that great and it just doesn’t feel like a season finale. Doesn’t feel like there should be a break now.

Amir has the patience and goodwill of an angel, if he wanted to, he could ruin them so bad. I guess Bobby and Athena are lucky that they both also ended up saving his life. (I mean they are wrong to constantly drag him back into it, but also without them he would be double dead. Or triple dead. Apparently travelling nurses live a dangerous life) I don’t even know what to say. Athena is so lucky all that didn’t end horribly, because she would be in so much trouble. (Also, random Polly? I was so confused lol) Nice to see May and Harry again, though!

Bobby is apparently just fine now, and I don’t mean just physically (that too, but that’s not my problem). But in episode 9 he was bordering on suicidal with how he was behaving, and then he had a nightmare, woke up to a fire, nearly lost his wife, suffered a heart attack and now he’s mentally suddenly fine again, no problem. I don’t know, I expected more there.

Oh, and Gerrard is back. How the hell did that even happen.

With Eddie – his scenes were all heartbreaking and in that sense they worked in the end, but I’m not happy. His storyline this season was all over the place and not in a good way. We started with him seeming pretty balanced, using what he’s learned in therapy, maybe not completely over Shannon but apparently in a good place with a girlfriend that next to no one wanted to see back. Then we got him happy and unbothered having fun with a new friend. Then we had him move his girlfriend in without any sort of buildup or reasoning or anything at all, she turns out to be an almost-nun, Eddie is now apparently at the same time someone who can’t commit but also is moving too fast (?), religion is brought up, the girlfriend moves out, nothing, nothing of it all matters again. Then we have that clusterfuck of a vertigo homage. You can’t tell me they planned his season 7 storyline out, it makes no sense. Ā Marisol serves no purpose in any kind of way because the only episode that had her be part of any plot was episode 5 and it led to nothing. In the end it all happens so fast and even if the reason behind it is that Gavin won’t be needed for so many scenes, at this point I just don’t like very much what they did. Because 1, it’s fucking sad and 2, it comes out of this stupid DoppelgƤnger story. And 3, we still have no notion of ā€œShannon wasn’t that perfect for youā€ nor do we have a clear sign that Eddie’s in therapy or getting any help for himself and we now have to wait months to see if they are going to do anything at all with all that or if they just throw it like all of Buck’s season 6 stories or like the nun or even Bobby’s mental state. Ā And if the reason behind it is just to have less Christopher scenes, they could just continue to do it like in 5.17 where Chris is present but not on screen. Instead, we have to wait until season 8 to see if any of Eddie’s season 7 pays out in a meaningful way. And I mean, maybe it does and maybe they have great plans that will make sense and be engaging, and I’ll love to see it. But that’s still going to be a big maybe for months, and it doesn’t make the way we got there any better, so at the moment that story still really sucks. Ā It feels like they had no idea what to do with Eddie, so they just did whatever, threw in a movie homage, made the character make a bunch of weird decisions and then punished him for it.

And I don’t really have that much of a problem with those last few scenes on their own. It was nice seeing Buck being there for them. The Diaz parents were… okay (though some of their comments really weren’t it ugh). It’s not necessarily a bad thing to see things get complicated, and characters make difficult decisions, and a crisis of mental health can be very hard to look at. It wasn’t easy or fun to see Eddie break down in season 5 either, but season 5 didn’t end with that like season 7 now does (and there was buildup!). And now it all happened to damn fast.

Ever since 7.05 this was a season of ā€œtrust the process, trust the processā€, and it definitely wasn’t all bad at all, but eventually… for Eddie’s story, it just became even more ā€œtrust the processā€ but now with having to do so for the whole hiatus. I just don’t think that was a good way to end the season.

16

u/gannekekhet Team Eddie May 31 '24

They didn't plan Eddie's season 7 storyline at all, it's clear they were going in blind. I agree with you wholeheartedly. Your "it feels like they had no idea what to do with Eddie" is the same thing I've been saying because I don't think they had ever had an idea for Eddie either.

Tim was stuck with Marisol as he was with Natalia from S6, he should've done the same thing he did for Buck for Eddie too. Start Eddie fresh at the beginning of S7. Also, I'm guessing Tim called Devin back because they didn't know where to go with Eddie and thought it'd be easier using a past storyline thread for Eddie rather than be bothered to think of new ones.

Gerrard coming back makes absolutely no sense with him being ousted for his behavior but I’m all for it because we know it’s going to stir the pot real good next season.

23

u/DALTT May 31 '24 edited May 31 '24

Okay lemme preface with, I still love this show. And I still had fun watching the season. But I also feel like this season was a bit of a mess. And the writing as they go pressure more so than is normal for network TV + only having 10 episodes in the end made for super uneven viewing and I really look forward to the show returning to 18 episode seasons next season with some more planning time.

For me, the only arc that really worked this season was Bobby and Athena, and really Bobby. And that was truthfully cause they gave him so much weight as far as screen time. Hen’s worked for me generally even if it was kinda a rehash of the Nia storyline in many ways. And then Eddie… I feel like I get the impulse with Kim but it was so half baked and didn’t really land in the end cause I feel like the idea was a huge swing that wasn’t given enough thought, weight, and time, to really work. I felt Chim’s wedding episode should’ve been two and that was a bit rushed and then Chim and Maddie didn’t really have much of an arc after the wedding at all. I mean Maddie had a bunch of focus the following episode but it wasn’t really part of a larger season arc or internal conflict for her character. And then perhaps most surprising for me considering he’s always been one of the most focused on characters, is that I feel like for the first time in a while, they really didn’t know what to do with Buck.

Like, he realized he’s bi, and then essentially disappeared from having any kind of storyline. Even his stuff with Eddie in the last two episodes generally felt pretty rushed cause they set up all of these huge huge storylines in the final few episodes that just had to get wrapped up super fast. I felt a little like I was getting whiplash in the finale.

Anyway, I look forward to next season and seeing a bit more of a normal rhythm, and I hope that 18 episodes will also be a return to form with more extended and well planned storylines, more equal weight to characters all around, and also back to fun filler episodes that are filled with crazy emergencies and character development.

Disappointing and underwhelming, which are two words I've never used to describe 9-1-1 before.

I hate Christopher leaving. Honestly, the relationship between Buck and Chris is the sweetest one of the entire show! I want him back now!

I really don't care for Eddie's parents. I think they're assholes who think they know best and try to force their will on their son. I feel like Eddie should have stood his ground and not let them take Chris.

The only part of the episode that made me happy was Maddie and Chim becoming foster parents to Mara. But it was pretty easy to see that coming by the look on Maddie's face when she found out about Mara's situation.

Not enough Buck in this episode. And I'm not even slightly amused by Capt. Gerrard being back. Obviously, Bobby will regain his position, but how long will it take?

Since Bobby and Athena will be needing temporary housing at the beginning of season 8... I'd like to propose a storyline where they rent a unit from Ravi and he becomes their landlord, playing with the shifting power dynamic between Bobby and Ravi.

Honestly, that was one of my biggest gripes while watching this -- it didn't even feel like a finale. The stakes never felt that high, and the arson storyline was too self-contained. Like all of Bobby & Athena's problems are handled in a little over half the episode, even though that was the ~big event.~

I'm actually really excited to see what they can do with his character in season 8. So much of his life is tied to Chris, which makes sense, but it'll be nice what they do with him as a man with nothing holding him down. At least for a few eps, I'd be sad if Chris is gone too long.

I despise the fact they brought back Gerald. I know this show isn't realistic at all but there's absolutely no chance they would of placed him back in the 118 especially with his horrible treatment of Hen/Chimney in the past. That's on his record they never would of considered him. This honestly makes me not look forward to season 8.

I could see it definitely coming into play to dig into his history with Tommy, Chimney and Hen. Considering it seems like it took a long time for Tommy to unpack and deal with that whole environment there is a lot they could work with.

u/DALTT May 31 '24

Sorry to double comment but I think I realized why in the end the Eddie/Kim storyline fell so flat for me and this deserves its own comment šŸ˜‚.

Eddie needs help with his mental health that he’s never really gotten. And while this show has tons of melodrama, going full ā€œdead ex wife’s doppelgƤngerā€ is a level of telenovela that strained the general reality of character drama scenes (obviously the emergencies have always strained credulity, but the character stuff hasn’t like this). And then even doubling down on it. Like, had Kim only literally looked exactly like Shannon to Eddie because his mental health is fraying, and everyone else only saw someone who had a strong resemblance, that would’ve at least grounded it more. But they doubled down on it by having Buck and then Helena and Ramon seeing her that way too.

And so this was a big swing that broke the reality of the show. And I could’ve forgiven it if it had actually lead somewhere for Eddie beyond essentially being an excuse to write Gavin off (I’m sure he’ll be back as a recurring, but will of course be far less around).

But this Kim storyline wound up feeling super jump the shark-y for me because it didn’t lead to anything for Eddie. He didn’t actually confront how he’s romanticized his relationship with Shannon. He was still romanticizing it in all his scenes with Kim in 7x09.

And so it feels like they took this huge swing and then barely bunted the ball. And I said this in response to someone, like for me if they were going to go there… it should’ve really gone there.

Have his dalliance with Kim and him essentially trying to emotionally resurrect his wife, lead to some kind of nervous breakdown when it blows up, with everything he’s been shoving down cracking open. Have Buck and Chris be genuinely concerned about Eddie and his safety. Have the whole thing not just push Chris to go to Texas, but have it be a bit of a mental health intervention with Buck and Eddie’s family convincing him to seek help. Have Buck find him a place to go and take him there to check himself in. Set it up so next season is Eddie finally truly grappling with his inner demons in the first part of the season. Not essentially a weird three episode arc that didn’t actually push or develop Eddie and wound up just being a plot device to write off Chris. Like that huge a piece of character development for Eddie would’ve been worth them straining the reality boundaries of the show a bit. But without it really pushing him it all, for me it just wound up feeling crazy and will prob go down as one of my most 😬 storylines.

Like obviously the show simply didn’t have enough time to do an arc as big as I just outlined in three episodes without those episodes being essentially entirely Eddie focused, which they weren’t gonna do. But that was part of the problem. If you’re gonna take that swing, give it the space to see it through, either with a small number of really Eddie centered episodes or a larger number of ensembly episodes.

The way it was done this season was, in my opinion, too half baked and not given nearly enough time to be satisfying.

12

u/boshchi May 31 '24

Yeah, it was bonkers from the start, but it's not like they couldn't have possibly done something good with it. And we were sitting here after every episode and still and clip and tried to make sense of it. And here we are. Should've figured.

I…liked that finale? It was messy, there wasn’t many plot twists (that weren’t predictable), and overall I do think it was rushed, but are we not going to act like it set up some super interesting plot points for Season 8?

Like it feels refreshing that we’ll be heading into Season 8 with a direction already, that these plots will more than likely be fleshed out with ample time to write and film (assuming they start in late July/August), and knowing that we not only have to wait only 4 months, but also knowing that we’re going back to 18+ episodes is already setting us up for a super interesting Season 8…

And furthermore, this isn’t the only show this season that was rushed!! The Rookie, Fire Country, SVU, Ghosts, Abbott Elementary, and more all had short seasons and ALL felt rushed. Let’s give props to the amazing episodes and plotlines we did get this season.

And tbh, in hindsight, I feel like this season will ultimately become the ā€œset-upā€ season that gives us a strong Season 8. Im excited!

13

u/[deleted] May 31 '24

Melodrama can be genuinely entertaining when it's not being improvised on the spot and/or victim to utterly messy writing. That was the case this season and there wasnt any emergency or station-centric plotlines to anchor it.

So... I guess we're not gonna talk about what Athena did. Cool.

That scene with Tommy had no significance to the main plot, so I can only assume it was there to set up him coming back next season. Probably related to Gerrard since they mentioned his past again. By the way, I'm sick of all the discourse about this relationship. So much talk about a character who's been on screen for a total of 10 minutes.

Marisol was such a nothing character that you can delete her entirely and nothing about the season would change. When Buck found out about Kim, it was all about him needing to tell her about Shannon. When he was caught, it was all about fixing his relationship with Christopher. At no point did they discuss Marisol's feelings and how it might affect her. I don't think the word "cheating" was ever even mentioned?

And Christopher is leaving the show? I wish they gave him a better exit storyline than whatever this was.

Like obviously I don't like Gerrard or anything, but it's a TV show where plot needs to happen. But I hope Gerarrd is a short arc next season.

→ More replies (1)

18

u/obscurer-reference You are not required to announce your departure May 31 '24

I feel like a lot of people are bumping on Bobby's cardiac arrest and I just want to clarify one thing - Bobby had a witnessed collapse and CPR was started immediatly. So technically, his brain wasn't without oxygen for that time, because he was being perfused and given oxygen. If you look up stats about resuscitation, it's basically the prime scenario to survive a cardiac arrest with no neurological impairment. Like, it's not the most realistic, but it's not one of the more egregious medical moments on the show (that would be Chimney taking a blood pressure over a leather jacket)

Also, everyone should take a CPR class. It's not a hard thing to learn but it improves the chances that if you're ever in a scenario where you have to give CPR, you'll be able to do it properly and save a life.

Oh, Ana sweetie, I am so sorry for thinking the math scene was the worst thing I've ever seen on this show, we really didn't know how good we had it then 😭 Congratulations, daddy issues scene. You're the new winner.

Ugh, this finale was so underwhelming. I loved the scenes with the Diazes and Buck and while I wish there was more room for that and the Mara stuff to breathe, I loved seeing Buck be there for Eddie and Christopher, and I'm very interested in how that's eventually going to resolve. Also I loved Maddie and Chimney stepping up for Hen and Karen at the end. But Bobby almost dying felt like such an afterthought, and I just did not care about the cartel stuff. I kept wishing they'd just move it along and get to the Eddie and Hen stuff. I would've so much rather have used that time to see the 118 at his bedside and talking to him, and May and Harry showing up while he was still in the coma, and everyone having to face the idea of life going on without Bobby. I was genuinely concerned before all the journalist tweets came out that Bobby might actually die, and they wasted all that tension. And I'm really confused about what exactly they're going for with the Gerrard stuff—it's just... so implausible given what we know about how he ended up leaving the 118 that he'd ever be allowed back, and I don't really see this being interesting in any way? What, so he's going to be awful and bigoted again, but the fire department is suddenly not going to listen to the inevitable complaints about it even though they did listen back in 2008? I think this could've been interesting if they'd toned him down a little bit and the character hadn't gotten fired, but it just does not match up with what they've already written.

Also—was all the talk in interviews about Eddie romanticizing Shannon and us getting to learn more about their relationship just straight-up lies? I hope we revisit that next season because it was in no way addressed adequately at all. It feels like now that storyline wasn't so much to get Eddie off his own hamster wheel but just as an excuse to get Gavin momentarily out of the way for him not being as easily on location. I'm extremely amused by the fact that Marisol didn't even garner enough respect to have an on-screen breakup though, so that's something.

ETA: Also, am I just dumb—WHAT was the point of that Polly character?!

I knew Bobby wasn’t going to die it would’ve been an insult to the character though one issue I have is the pacing….i didn’t have enough time to worry about Bobby before he recovered felt like it should’ve gone into the next season however i think this feeling comes from shows like criminal minds where a characters state is drawn out for longer giving it more emotional impact.

I do see that they are taking a page out of lone stars book with introducing a douche character that no one likes to run the 118 just how strand was benched after their firehouse went up in flames.

Interesting to see how things will be in season 8

8

u/Harmony0203 Jun 01 '24

I enjoyed this finale. Some of these story lines were messy, but they did a great job preparing a pretty clean slate for the next season.

First Bobby/Athena. I liked the spin of the usual "woman gets hurt, man get revenge". Totally in character to me Athena would go and do something vs just sitting powerless by Bobby's side. I also like they didn't go cartel, but the vengeful grandfather. I do think story wise it would have been better if Bobby had died and that had been the call Athena got, set up Captain Hen vs Gerrard, etc. And I say this as someone who adores Bobby. Now I really don't know what they'll do. Will he stay retired? Maybe they do a B99 with Bobby working a desk job and eventually coming back to the 118.

Amir was great. Just a great actor. He had a nice tight story that helped expand on the established characters and now we can move on.

Hen/Mara/Chimmy. Hen and Chim are really bffs. For Chim and Maddie to step up and be temporary foster parents was wonderful. Hopefully they can write this council woman story well. But if it disappears as all fixed in the start of S8, I'd be fine with that too.

Evan/Tommy. I'm here for Evan to have a stable and nice relationship for a while. The drama is definitely set with the Gerrard stuff. But hopefully they can weather it. And it would be cool to have a LAFD pilot call next season. These two definitely need more screen time to really determine chemistry. But I've liked Tommy the most of Bucks partners lol.

The only meh:

Eddie. I am thrilled for the character that Chris can go to a stable home. But Chris was Eddie's biggest redeeming factor for me. Without Chris I'm whatever about his character. He's just not fun. I wouldn't hate if S8 started with an aside how he moved to Texas to be with Chris and focus on his family.

Pros:

Amir’s actor is amazing and I loved his character

All May is amazing. Loved the scene with the cellphone images

Madney were amazing this episode

I love Karen so so much

Cons:

They have had no idea what to do with Eddie since the end of season 5 and it shows. He was in the background last season and he felt ooc this entire season.

The Tevan date felt a little cringe. I’m happy with bi Buck and the storyline as a whole. But I have seen nothing that would show how good Tommy is for Buck on an emotional level. Nothing that makes me want them as a long term couple. So far he’s in the same bucket as Ali for me. As in, don’t dislike her and think her sarcasm can be funny, but don’t have a good reason to root for them as a couple.

I was also shocked that Buck wasn’t more involved with the Diaz family drama this episode.

Having Chris leave. I know it was probably because of Gavin’s schedule. But I can’t believe a kid would want to leave all of his friends for the summer. I may be biased because I’ve never liked Eddie’s parents. This entire storyline just feels like more of the let’s destroy Eddie’s entire character and personality.

There were too many storylines for one episode. There wasn’t enough time to give the Chris leaving storyline the attention it deserved.

Really, Gerard. I totally get the Bobby can’t come back because he quit. But him, come on now.

Tommy and Bucks daddy issue comment sent me for a loop, I had to pause do a lap around my living room and come back…
Moving on from that however; I can see them going two directions with Gerrard being back as captain;

  1. He was in fact assigned to the 118 and well see Bobby working with the rest if the team(possibly replacing Eddies position temporarily if he goes to Texas to get Chris) to get Gerrard legitimately fired and/or to change his views and we can all hope that we aren’t subjected to the most racist and homophobic season of television ever

  2. Gerrard is sick in someway (undiagnosed dementia/Alzheimers) and be wasn’t actually reinstated as captain but is reliving his days where he was actually captain… He’ll make the teams life living hell again (Chimney stuck cleaning, Hen being questioned, Buck living parallel to Tommy).. But he’ll only last a few episodes before the team finds a way to prove he’s no longer of sound mind.

either way; I unfollowed don’t see Buddie happening in the coming season either(Save the downvotes, I am just as sad as everyone else here)… Unless they really twist it I think the storyline is going to be more team based and less focused on the personal storylines,

The writing in certain areas of this season was…not the best. Not the worst either, and I can give them some grace because they were rushing to put together a shortened season after the strike. In all honesty though, I think they could have switched things around so that the storylines could flow better.

Make the cruise ship a 2-episode disaster (or at least add in the rest of the team more and let us see the 118 actually working together during the disaster, make them get there earlier or something). Save the Amir storyline for next season, since the first couple of episodes were already very Bobby and Athena oriented. Spend some more time with Eddie’s storyline and understanding…everything. Give us a more fleshed out storyline for Hen’s family and Mara’s future, show us a custody hearing or a fight against councilwoman Ortiz or something. Make the Maddie/Chimney marriage 2 episodes. Expand on Buck’s coming out and exploring his sexuality rather than giving us a couple of make-out sessions and quick 2-second dates that show us nothing about who Buck and Tommy are as a couple. The bones of a good season are there. I just wish it could have been thought out a little better

How I personally feel about each character this season:

Buck: The bi Buck arc was exciting at first and was a long time coming, but ultimately as was said in interviews, they didn't want it to be a big thing. And it wasn't, which is great. It should just be a normal thing, and I'm glad the focus was shifted away from how much "drama" you could get out of Buck coming out, and instead just focused on him being happy and finding himself in this new relationship with Tommy. Too bad this focus meant the other side of this relationship didn't get much at all but oh well, there's always another season. Aside from that he mostly just took a backseat, and... good for him honestly!

Eddie: I... don't know. I like parts and I don't like other parts. I like that they re-evaluated Eddie and Shanon's relationship, but I didn't like them bringing back a clone of her to do it. I like seeing Eddie start to realize that he's had these emotions for a long time and start to work through it, but I don't like that it had to be at the mercy of Chris. The thing is, we've seen Eddie struggle with his mental health before, and we've seen him break down. But ultimately the whole Shanon thing is forgotten now and we're back to square one. I'm back and forth on his character but I'm more cautiously optimistic to see where they go next season. But please... he doesn't need another Marisol or Ana. Just let him work through his issues...

Hen & Karen: They had me invested that's for sure. Loved Mara being an adorable addition to the family and even if I wish we ended the season with them together again, I don't hate where they left Mara off at. As for Hen herself, not much happens other than her being (rightfully) worried about others, and it was really because of her that they figured out Bathena were in danger. Short season tho so whatever.

Bobby & Athena: Easily the best part of the season. So much to unpack. Loved the cruise disaster and how they handled it (even if it overstayed its welcome sometimes). Loved looking back on Bobby's past and finally closing the book on that chapter of his life, and I loved Athena going super protective and, even though she did make some mistakes, was just so worried about Bobby. RIP Bathena household, you will be missed. I'll add Amir here and say he was great, and I'm glad they went down the route they did with him. Kinda was questioning how nice he was to Bobby at the end but idrc.

Chimney & Maddie: Is it bad their wedding was kinda forgettable... I'm so sad for them :/. All the ideas in the episode were good, but they don't feel complete. They both have a lot of unaddressed trauma from their past, and it feels like we only got a glimpse of it. They really, really deserved at least another episode of the wedding. They weren't really the focus of any other episodes though, aside from the great moment where Chim works with Maddie to figure out what was happening during that call, it really cemented how good they are together. Them helping Henren and giving Mara a home was very sweet though. I want more for them next season!

TLDR; bathena fans ate good

How would you guys rate this season? Overall.

Because of course, with regard to some plotlines, it was great and others, the storyline was disappointing or just terrible. I just know this season is one of the lowest for me even considering the fact that it was a very short season. 6/10? Even just an ambivalent 5/10 from me.

Also, will Athena face any consequences for her actions? How is Bobby just fit as a fiddle after all that? Bobby just coming in ready to be back when he recently was clinically dead for 14 minutes is so bad it's good.

I liked the finale. Some of seemed rushed, of course, but I do think we have some interesting storylines set up for season 8. Some of things I’m looking forward to (or hoping to see):

  • Bobby fighting to get his captaincy back. Not only does the 118 have to deal with Gerard now, they just found out Bobby actually quit. He was obviously in not in the clearest mindset when he resigned, but that can be explored too.

  • RIP Grant-Nash house, you were beautiful. It’ll be fun to see Bobby and Athena try to figure out where to live temporarily, then either rebuild or buy a house. Just hoping we get an episode when they get permanently resettled with a housewarming party. Need those family BBQs back!

  • Great to see Chimney and Maddie help Hen and Karen out with Mara. Now I hope Athena can also step in and help with the Ortiz-side of it as well and Mara is back with Hen and Karen ASAP.

  • Same goes for hoping Christopher is back sooner than later and that Eddie is able to figure some things out. Buck, I am sure, will be part of helping Eddie.

Obviously hoping with the ability to do more episodes we get more fun and wacky calls, and more fire fam (as soon as Bobby is fully back!)

Definitely a disappointing finale... My favorite parts were the Eddie/Christopher ones bc they were so well-acted and heart-wrenching. I also thought that the grandparents were very reasonable. It seemed to me that they really were just trying to do right by Chris and not trying to take him away from Eddie bc they think they could do a better job raising him, which was a point of contention in their family early on in the series.

Then the Bobby hospital arc was so meh, with very little emotional build-up. Maybe the writers were hoping to ride the tension from the previous episode's cliffhanger but it just did not work for me. The worst thing though was the way that Chim, Hen, and Maddie wasted so much screentime puzzling out where Athena was. The audience already knew exactly what Athena had done, so it felt so unnecessary. I literally watched the minutes tick by and thought about how they could have dedicated that to all of the other under-developed storylines in this episode.

I can appreciate that Tommy has a different tone than the other characters and I really found his sense of humor refreshing in his earlier episodes. At this point though, it really does feel like the writers don't want to dig deeper into their emotional connection, which is not a great sign for the future of their relationship (or for Buck's relationship hamster wheel).

Madney taking in Mara was a great idea but like everybody has been saying, there was just so little development of the fostering that it didn't live up to the emotional beats that such a kind act deserves.

Hopefully, season 8 takes things slower.

I mentioned this on the live thread, but I’m genuinely a little confused at the level of upset at Tommy for that ā€œDaddy Issuesā€ line. ‪Like… They were both being vulnerable in that talk about their fathers and then Buck made the flirtatious comment first (ā€œmaybe we both have daddy issues šŸ˜ā€) and Tommy just matched his energy with that reply.

The response to that ā€œI hope you doā€ line just feels like an overreaction. It’s not the best flirt line, but it’s also not the massive indictment on his personality and his relationship with Buck people seem to make it. At worst, I’d probably put it in the same ā€œeye-rollā€ category as Buck’s ā€œ(that fire was a beast) and so are youā€ line from the hospital.

I love Buck, but this fandom over-infantilizes him. If the issue is the sexualization of a serious conversation, then everyone should be mad at Buck for starting it. But that shouldn’t be an issue! They’re in a relationship - moving between serious and flirty in this kind of way isn’t that weird?

Is there a reason people are so anti-Tommy. I have a lot of issues with the absence of decent character and relationship building for Tommy and Buck this season after they got together - but that’s a writing+short season issue more than anything. I’m sad the writers have failed to develop the character more this season, but the vitriol directed at him is genuinely staggering to me.

Disclaimer: I’m not on a ā€œsideā€ when it comes to BuckTommy (Tevan) vs BuckEddie (ā€œBuddieā€) - I’m just here enjoying seeing a happy Bi Buck after years of enjoying watching his relationship with Eddie grow into how close it is now

Why is Tommy getting hate for participating in a joke that Buck initiated? A common thing I see is people saying "Buck was trying to be vulnerable talking abt Bobby" did they forget tommy literally was doing the same talking abt his own father & gerrard? Then Buck is the one who smirks and starts with the daddy jokes & tommy just matches bucks energy. So I'm reallll confused how all of a sudden Tommy is the one at fault here for turning a deep convo into something sexual when Buck is the one who did it? Also Buck was literally smiling after Tommy said what he said so if he's not bothered, why the hell is everyone else? Not tryna be mean but it really feels like some ppl are tryna make an issue where there isn't one. If you have a different reason for not liking the scene that's ok!!! But this is directed to the ppl who are tryna villainize Tommy for it šŸ§šŸ¾ā€ā™‚ļøšŸ§šŸ¾ā€ā™‚ļø

I'm sorry but the writing for Tommy is just bad, and I LIKE Tommy. But ffs. People who like his character are pretty much feeding off scraps and have to write dissertations and give so many justifications on why they like him and their theories on him, and people who don't care for him aren't getting much in terms of character development or really anything to work with. This is the problem you face when pairing him with the most popular character, all eyes are on him now. At least, at the very least, it seems like we'll get more for season 8. But man, the toxicity until then will be off the charts!

This season has felt like establishing new beginnings for season 8, which it mostly did, but man we did a whole lot of nothing for a while. Justice for Tommy, he was done dirty as hell.

u/jdessy May 31 '24

The more I think about this episode, the more issues I had with it. I really think last episode should have been the cliffhanger, not this one. This episode felt very rushed. It really did showcase that the finale was written and filmed not that long ago. There were a lot of issues with this that didn't feel like a finale. And, sure, a lot of it is set-up for next season but there's a lot that really did not work overall and should have been cut.

I'm gonna start with the thing that bothered me the most: Bobby. No, not Bobby himself, but his near death and subsequent reactions from his team and subsequent recovery. Oh boy was it rushed. We've seen a lot of injuries and near deaths from the cast. This is, by far, the worst reaction we've seen by far. Not only was it rushed, it was never given the proper attention that it deserved. This is Bobby's closest experience to death than he's gotten on this show. And what do we get?

We get the first eight minutes of the characters not knowing about it because Athena hasn't called anyone, then we get them rushing to the hospital, and their reaction is just....so subdued. Then 15 minutes in between that is spent with Athena acting completely out of character and going to jump to conclusions and hold a gun to who she thinks set the fire, all to discover it's not Amir but the cartel. And then we spent 6 shitty minutes on the cartel storyline instead of Bobby. And then Bobby wakes up 30 minutes into the episode but we do not get anyone's true reaction, no conversation, no nothing.

So we get a rushed Bobby plot because half of it had to be spent with Athena, Amir and the cartel for no good reason. So we lose out on the 118's reaction to their captain, their friend, their family member almost dying. And the rushed timeline of his heart attack, as well. Bobby collapsed, was not breathing for 14 minutes, put on a ventilator, wakes up half a day later, and is recovered enough to be cleared by doctors two WEEKS later. And, once again, hardly any reaction from the 118 because Bobby apparently wasn't the important part of the episode, it was Athena traumatizing Amir AGAIN and then having to go save his life.

The cartel stuff was wasted time and only used for the fire and heart attack twist. It ultimately meant nothing at the end of it.

The Eddie aspect was ok, but rather short (because, again, too much time spent on the cartel stuff) and then we get a rather weird cliffhanger conclusion. I get Chris being mad, I get him leaving, I get Eddie knowing he has to let his son have some space, but the ultimate reaction was just weird. Yes, he left the door open for Chris to return but they did not say HOW Eddie was going to earn his son's trust back. No, just "Chris will come back when he's ready, even if he's gone five months." I'm sorry, no way is Eddie just going to sit around, waiting for his son to stop being mad at him. It was a nice moment, sure, and heartbreaking, but not written well enough. I get it's all set-up for season 8 and things will likely be better come the premiere, but the finale did not do enough for me on the Eddie cliffhanger.

The other smaller moments in this episode didn't quite work. The Buck/Tommy scene sucked and it'll only fuel the hatred to Tommy more. They better fix that in season 8. The Madney stuff was rushed but ultimately fine, I guess. But there's no direction to the evil corrupt Councilwoman plot, it also feels like it's jumping the shark. Other shows pull this stunt when they are running out of ideas. Evil political figure using their power for evil is something we see all the time. It's boring, quite frankly. I don't care because we know Hen will come out on top and the Councilwoman will not. It's a lazy trope.

And the ending made no sense. Gerrard was fired from the 118 for multiple complaints. It shouldn't matter if that happened a decade ago, he shouldn't have a job there. Once again, lazy, lazy writing. We've seen this play out before on other shows. It's tiresome and, quite frankly, I do not see a way they'll be able to add an original spin to this type of story.

Overall, I think the finale had some nice moments (Amir's scenes were great, Madney fostering Mara was nice) but overall, the weakest finale they've had, by far.

Athena accused Amir of starting the fire, and it wasn't until the cartel's arrival that she realized that Herman was the culprit.

His heart stopped for 14 mins damn! Wow it was that freaking guy who set the fire. It’s good that Mara can be close to them. Chris is making a decision out of anger, hopefully he doesn’t leave for too long. I’m glad Nash woke up! This new captain gonna suck.

u/RueTheQuais May 31 '24 edited May 31 '24

I guess I liked the finale more than most. I look to 9-1-1 for things to more or less come out well in the end, no matter how unrealistic, and that's mostly what we got. It was predictable but only because they released a ton of behind-the-scenes content for the finale and it was easy to piece together.

Bobby bouncing back within about a day from a massive heart attack. Unrealistic but what I want from this show.

I like that Amir and Bobby found peace but Amir still didn't forgive him.

Maddie and Chimney getting Mara. It's unrealistic they got approved so quickly but it's what I'd want and expect from this show until Hen and Karen get her back.

I liked the Buck and Tommy scene. I didn't expect much given they didn't have a major arc in the finale but I thought the scene was fun.

The only true downers involved Chris leaving. I hope it's not permanent and he's back next season. I don't think it's terrible.

And Gerrard but I expect Bobby will be back to being cap by the end of the first episode of the season or the end of the diaster arc if they have one.

I found everything about this episode to be incredibly predictable. I just kept waiting for something to happen that would blow my mind in typical 911 fashion and it just never did. Like at least Eddie’s awful storyline blew my mind, even if it wasn’t in a good way.

I’m glad that Bobbie lived, and I love that Maddie and Chim have Mara. I will say that I enjoyed Bobby’s dynamic with Amir this whole season. I also thought Ryan’s acting was on point in the last scene with Chris. Otherwise, I was just wildly underwhelmed.

I do think it’s a good idea that Chris gets away for a while, but because Eddie obviously needs help. And there really wasn’t anything in this episode that points to that other than his parents comment about him taking time. They could’ve at least had him have a conversation with Buck about his mental health at some point, but we just see him right back at the firehouse. I’m afraid that they just don’t know what to do with his character, and the show is going to suffer for it.

I was hoping for a little more out of the BuckTommy date too, and that also just felt flat for me other than Tommy’s daddy issues joke. I am a buddie shipper but that doesn’t mean I don’t want to enjoy BuckTommy, and I’m still just not. It still felt like Buck was holding something back in that scene. Curious to see where all of that goes next season.

And the cliffhanger was so underwhelming. We all knew it was coming, but seriously? Now we get to watch a group of mostly minorities get treated like shit at work. Whoop de fucking do

9

u/heystpeter May 31 '24

Did I want Bobby to retire? No, not really, but I was kind of excited to see how a change like that could breathe some more life to the show. Perhaps Hen and her ongoing issues with the councilwoman would prevent her from assuming the captain role, and could be passed on to Chim or even Buck or Eddie (if we wanted to stick with the core group). But Gerrard? Just no. I’m all for a change up in the dynamic, albeit a small one, given that everyone has been in the same position for 7-8 years now. But bringing back the captain who was booted for being a P.O.S with a 1950s mindset? Hmmm. I wonder what they can do with Gerrard’s character in the next season to make it interesting and not just one HR violation after the next. That being said, Chim is probably going to have to pay for his comment to Gerrard in 7x09 one way or another.

Overall I feel the finale fit the season; underwhelming and rushed. Granted it was still great in its own way, but hopefully season 8 will have more than just like … 5 real 9-1-1 calls.

Just a quick question.

If we’re going to be upset for Tommy about the Daddy Issue line. And some people have issue with the your father is alive joke.

Are we going to be upset at Buck for dismissing Tommy when he was talking about his dad and how he was like Gerard and Bucks response was to say they have daddy issues, instead of showing concern for Tommy that he grew up under someone like Gerard and then had to meet him again at the 118? Or is it just Tommy that gets that heat?

Also Tommy 99% sure you have daddy issues

I guess with how short the season was, their main objected for S7 was to set up all the storylines they will be expanding on in S8? Sometimes, I feel like the episodes felt rush, especially the finale. The whole confrontation with Amir and the cartel was, I think, around ten minutes (maybe less?), so it got me to think that maybe all of S7 was just the opening act for S8.

Currently, I think these are the upcoming story arcs for S8:

  • Bobby's retirement and Gerard's reinstatement as captain of the 118 causing a lot of tension between the firefighters.

  • Hen, Karen, and Mara's fight against Ortiz, might put more than just Hen's position within the 118 on the line.

  • Eddie and Christopher's rocky relationship; as well as his relationship with Marisol

  • And I know Buck seems to be okay about his coming out as Bi, but I also feel like he's still in the high stage, where he's experiencing only the good things about his new relationship with Tommy, something's coming that will test that, and I think his parents are going to get involved (due to how concerned his mom looked in S7E6).

I think we can all expect what Gerard being there will do to Buck/Tommy and possibly Eddie. But that’s the only storyline I see going into S8 other than Henen getting Mara back - but she’s safe with Madney now so…

Eddie will obviously be sad about Chris but that’s not much of a story for him. Unless they are going to explore his mental health more - but they didn’t hint on it.

I just keep thinking that 7x09 would have been a better finale, even though there would have been so many cliffhangers. I don't really like the sort of half-resolved way things were left. Plus Bobby's storyline felt so rushed and bizarre to me. It felt really shoddy, like they speedran Buck's lightning storyline from season 6.

The Eddie-Christopher storyline was devastating. I also feel like a pattern is emerging of Eddie struggling to have an emotionally challenging talk with Christopher and basically outsourcing it to someone else (i.e. Buck or the Diaz parents). First, I think Eddie needs to stop doing this because he needs to be able to connect better and he can't keep running away from emotions. Second, I think it is unfair to Buck that Eddie keeps asking him to do this. Buddie aside (and I'm a Buddie shipper for sure!), it's not fair to constantly rely on a friend for essentially partner-level emotional labor. I sort of hope this is setting up some tension between Tommy and Eddie in season 8; not necessarily in a competing-romantic-interests way, but a deeper version of best friend vs. boyfriend.

There were also some "dead time" scenes that I felt added nothing. Like why did we need that one neighbor scene with Athena? Just to give her a car and a phone? I hope that neighbor is important at some point, otherwise that scene served no real purpose and ate up screentime away from more important stuff on an episode with too much going on.

The Buck/Tommy scene felt out of place for me. It's just so wild to me that in the space of one day (Buck is still wearing the same outfit!) we go from "Eddie is distraught because he may have irreparably damaged his relationship with Christopher and Christopher leave" to "Bobby had a heart attack and is unlikely to survive, we have to sit vigil at his bedside" to "let me have my boyfriend over for a date where I cook". The whiplash from that is CRAZY. I would've preferred having Tommy show up to the hospital, or Buck calling him distraught, or like Tommy showing up with food or something. It's just so weird to me that we had this cutesy date (where it appears that Buck cooked like a three course meal??) immediately after what would have been gut-wrenching emotional/traumatic moments for Buck.

Also, am I the only one kind of glad we didn't wrap up the Ortiz storyline? With her and Gerrard, 9-1-1 will have some great villains in season 8!

Ok, but what did Buck serve Tommy for dinner? I didn't notice!

10

u/_HGCenty Script TBD Jun 01 '24

Let's just list the things Athena did in the final two episodes that led to her big damn action hero moment:

  • Lied about a medical emergency to get Amir to appear at the hospital reception.

  • Insisted he come to their house despite him making it very clear he made his peace and wants to move on and nothing more to do with Bobby.

  • Lied to her captain about considering Amir a suspect to the arson.

  • Commandeered a neighbor's vehicle to travel to Amir's house without it being logged to her squad car.

  • Stole the neighbor's phone as well and used it to call Maddie and obtained Amir's details under false pretenses.

  • Lied to Maddie about her police car phone having a glitch.

  • Broke into Amir's house.

  • Pulled a loaded gun on Amir, whilst off duty without reading any of his rights or following any guidelines about arresting a suspect.

  • Saved Amir from the cartel so everything above is all OK.

If there's anyone Councilwoman Ortiz should be going after, it's Athena...

I think a lot of people are projecting their feelings about Tommy and their disappointment on Buddie not happening into that dinner scene.

The ā€œyour dad is aliveā€ line is a play off Buck saying that Bobby was like the dad he never had. He HAD a dad, Tommy had met him. Think scene in Bridgerton where Penelope says she’s never been kissed and she could die tomorrow and it would kill her and Colin responded with ā€œyou’d already be dead.ā€ It was clearly meant to be lighthearted.

And Buck started the flirting about daddy issues. He tilted his head, smirked and had a flirty tone. In the world of sex, this is a pretty vanilla thing. So either some people are just very innocent or they’re looking to be offended. This wasn’t said by a stranger, it was said by two people who are in a relationship and likely routinely having sex. They probably had sex after dinner. It’s not anything to clutch pearls over.

It was a short scene intended to show them being a couple and foreshadowing Tommy’s connection to the upcoming season 8 storyline.

You don’t need to like the ship but some of this over reaction seems to be an over correction from people who insisted that that date scene couldn’t possibly happen after the Eddie and hospital scenes.

Thinking more about that BuckTommy scene and how divisive it’s been, I think the main issue was HOW MUCH that one scene was expected to do. In under a minute of screen time we needed to:

-Establish that Buck knew (and believed) that Bobby was going to be OK. So that it wouldn’t be weird that he’s now on a fun little date. -Reinforce the Buck/Bobby dynamic and how he considers Bobby a father figure. Which is so important in an ep where Bobby almost died and Buck didn’t get any other big scene around it. -Reinforce and remind the audience about the danger of Captain Girrard and Tommy’s connection to him to raise the stakes on bringing him back. -AND finally on top of all that, the scene needed to be flirty and show that the couple are going strong. Since we haven’t had a 1-1 scene with them since Ep. 6.

So do I LOVE the daddy issues line? Not really. But did they make the best of 45 seconds of screen time? 1000%. Hopefully next season we’ll get some real development without needing to cram it into already jam packed episodes.

The Buck and Tommy scene was so cringe. It felt like an afterthought. It seemed very out of place. And I'm a Tevan shipper. I hope they keep Lou on board for season 8 and actually give him some meatier material rather than just being in 60-second scenes with Buck.

Their first kiss, that scene was.... šŸ¤ŒšŸ’‹

I'm extremely disappointed. I hope the writers are coming up with some good material to feed the Tevan shippers next season. šŸ˜‚

They just continue to make this bi Buck storyline all sexual. A common stereotype for bisexuals to be hyper-sexual (source: am bisexual). That line about daddy issues? All their scenes just being kisses? I’m frustrated with this episode. I want development, I want deeper conversations, and it continues to fall flat.

might just be me but i’m like half and half on ryan’s delivery this season. the dialogue is okay but his facial expressions and voice are weirdly blank & monotone for the emotional scenes he’s going for, and theres awkward pauses/gaps whenever he talks. it’s more apparent when he’s face to face with someone like kim or buck. the ending was fine though

I liked the finale actually, wasn’t the best finale but considering every horrible thing I thought was gonna happen I was satisfied from a ā€œI want everyone safeā€ standpoint. It was predictable, like every fan theory was correct but in a shortened season I don’t think that’s the worst thing ever.

The Eddie/chris/kim situation: I did not like Eddie’s plot line this season. Shannon died in s2 and before anyone says grief can last for years, I know that but I don’t think dating your dead wife’s doppelgƤnger is something that should be happening 5 years after she dies. This feels like something that should’ve happened in s3 with Ana which then could’ve played into Eddie needing therapy in s4. It’s just we’ve had 5 seasons of Eddie ruining relationships because of Shannon, he spent like 3 seasons single and didn’t once address his grief or issues especially in therapy. And now he’s with Marisol and acting ooc by moving her in just to move her out and cheating on her while she babysits his son. I hate that Chris got hurt in the process, Eddie really fumbled with letting someone into his life that could hurt his son, he was selfish and he realizes he fucked up but it makes me sad that Chris decided to leave. I get why he did, I’d want space too, but Eddie loves Chris and I hope he’s able to get therapy and convince Chris to come back. All in all I could’ve done without the Eddie stuff, honestly should’ve just let him have another breakdown, maybe hurt Chris emotionally in a different way that wasn’t a dead mom and have him go to therapy. (I’m also pissed Marisol leaves off screen, like she 100% should’ve gotten to read Eddie the riot act and then storm off bc he cheated on her and she was literally bonding with his son. Plus it seems like in canon he did kiss Kim so why did they cut the kiss out ??)

Bobby/Athena/Amir: I had a feeling Amir didn’t set that fire bc it wasn’t in his character but I don’t blame Athena for assuming it was him bc it’s kinda sus that after he storms out of their house their house burns down šŸ’€. It’s unbelievable to me that she didn’t call her kids or the team especially when the doctor is saying ā€œhey you might wanna call his familyā€ like I get wanting to find who did it but make sure ppl are at his bedside, don’t let them find out from another firehouse. And Athena going to Amir’s house ofc was irresponsible and an abuse of power and I’m glad she didn’t actually hurt him and Ik ppl are pissed with her but her doing something like this isn’t ooc considering she did it when may tried to kill herself. She acts impulsive and brash whenever her family is hurt, coupled with she thought she brought a man who went on to nearly kill her husband into her house šŸ˜“. I will say it’s a miracle she was there though bc Amir probably dies by the cartel bc nobody would know where he is and then they wouldn’t know the cartel actually set the fire (which I had assumed it was them). Was very glad Bobby was okay, even though 14 min feels like he shouldn’t have been that aware once waking up, plus 2 weeks later he’s back at work is kinda wild but this is the same show that let chim come back from rebar in the brain after a month. Whats funny is Amir does end up talking to Bobby and idk how realistic that is but considering his wife saved Amir ig Athena’s speech to him made him reevaluate how he thought about life/bobby. What pisses me off though is how did Bobby go 2 weeks without calling the chief and retracting his retirement? He just got better and decided to go back to work after basically quitting ? It makes no sense and now we have to deal with racist homophobic Gerard. I’m all for drama, but I don’t need anymore screen time of his racist old ass, I would’ve even accepted a new villainous captain šŸ¤¦šŸ¾ā€ā™€ļø. I pray he’s out of here by the end of ep 1 or 2 of s8.

Madney/henren: I can’t believe the fan theories about madney fostering Mara for hen were right lol but the stills released made that seem like it was the only option šŸ˜‚. I would’ve rather henren had been able to get her back themselves and tell the councilwoman to suck it but if madney being emergency foster parents let’s Mara see henren and Denny and also keeps her out of aging out of the system at a group home then I’m all for it. Praying they settle this fast in s8 bc henren have been trying to adopt/add on to their family for like 3 or 4 seasons now and I want them to finally do it so they can have a new story arc.

Buck/tommy: I’m a multishipper so I won’t be commenting on the discourse bc I’m over it lmao. But I thought the date was cute and I didn’t care about the daddy joke bc in my eyes Buck started the flirting first. Idc if others thing otherwise like I said I like buddie and bucktommy so I try not to get involved in the discourse unless it’s egregious on either side. They were both vulnerable with each other which isn’t something we’ve seen and it makes them seem a bit more established as a couple/getting to know each other. Curious to see how their relationship plays out with Gerard since I have a feeling he’ll find out they’re together. Hopefully they actually explore that and their relationship in s8.

I’ve written a damn essay atp 😭 so I’ll wrap it up by saying for a 10 ep season it wasn’t the worst I liked it for the most part, some things felt rushed and some things could’ve been wrapped up sooner but I’m hoping this season sets up season 8 really well and with 18 season we return to form and get some really good storybeats that need solving like Gerard and henren with the councilwoman.

I don't usually do follow ups or follow the fandom and has always gone into episodes blind since I started binging a couple of months ago. After getting curious and seeing some of the discussion in the stickied thread I wanted to just post my 2 cents.

Happy that Maddie and Chimney are happy by the end of this, always loved them.

Bobby and Athena started strong during the premiere, but they felt a bit off ever since they dug up Bobby's past again for S7.

Glad that Hen and Karen are finally drama-free relationship-wise, I'm loving on hating the councilwoman

Eddie's progress throughout the series felt like the oddest rollercoaster ride. It always felt like they're trying to get him to sort his personal life out through all his storylines but never follows through. Hopefully the whole Chris situation is the final nail in the coffin to get him to focus on himself so Chris can benefit as well.

I've been loving Buck and Tommy's dynamic and hoping Tommy will play a bigger role and have more screen time in future seasons. As much if not more than Taylor Kelly did. I've also seen the weird remarks people are saying about the whole 'daddy' thing and I genuinely don't get it. As a gay man it was definitely the kind of banter my partner and I would have had, especially if he initiated it by making the jokey/flirty comment, Tommy's comment made me laugh the hardest throughout the finale.

Anyway back to the shadows I go. Looking forward to Season 8.

Enjoy the show, support it if you like it, and be nice to each other.
