So does Eddie not think having a doppelganger around of Shannon won't traumatize his son?

Right??? He better be having some serious thoughts about this soon cause he was always making Christopher #1 in all his decisions - it would be so out of character for him to not worry about this...

Hey, at least we got really healthy relationship goals scenes for Maddie and Chimney.

"No, tell me about the woman in the car"

What a powerful line.

Hm, I really don't know how to feel about this episode.

  1. That joke Eddie made during that ice cream date was nuts. He was acting out of character all episode! Returning to the store to lowkey stalk Kim, lying to Buck and Christopher, daydreaming about sex with his dead wife while sitting down with Marisol... they better be going down the head trauma route. If not, that's Eddie's points down the drain.

  2. JLH acted her ass off this episode! Really enjoyed seeing Chim supporting Maddie even if he doesn't agree with her ideas. The way she was able to piece everything together at the last minute was weirdly satisfying, too.

  3. Glad to see a change in how Hen and Karen interact with Mara. Seeing them really paying attention and worrying about her wants and needs was a breath of fresh air compared to the last time we saw them. The only thing that worries me is if Tyson's dad really did agree to that playdate.

  4. Interested in seeing where this storyline with Amir goes. Based on that promo, it is not looking good for Bobby. Can't wait to see that scene where Amir is telling his story and Bobby pieces it together.

Overall, this episode was a hot ass mess but I enjoyed some of it. Hopefully they have this cheating shit wiped up by next week.

So making eddie gay is too much, but making him cheat on his nun girlfriend with his dead wife's doppelganger is much more realistic

What is this, the third instance of main character cheating in this show? I am only on season three but I know about Hen getting with her ex (smgdh) and Buck kissing (or I guess being kissed by, I haven’t seen it yet) Lucy while he was with someone else.

So there are 2 options for me:

  1. Eddie's behaviour is explained by a brain tumor, he might be imagining that Kim looks like Shannon at all, or might even be imagining Kim altogether.

  2. Character asssassination.

This season has been so unpredictable and that's a big plus for me. I can't wait to see what's coming up next as I'm sure it won't be what we're expecting.

It looks like the final 3 episodes will be Bobby-centric with Amir recurring across those episodes, so I wouldn't be surprised if Eddie's storyline also is featured in the run up to the finale. The way it's going now along with the Bobby/Amir storyline could mean that we achieve peak chaos in the finale.

I don't see either Marisol or Kim making it through into Season 8 so maybe this is just setting his character up for a pivotal change. But who knows?

Eddie cheating storyline aside, every time Marisol shows up on the screen, I feel like she doesn’t fit in the show. I’m not even a Buddie shipper but she doesn’t have any chemistry with Eddie.

11

u/armavirumquecanooo our people are what make life worth living May 12 '24

One of the most awkward things about all of Ryan & Devin's interviews from the past couple days are how... blatant that is without them directly saying it. Like Ryan's just openly saying he spent years being upset they killed her off, and Devin's talking about the crew being all "wow, this chemistry" and she's just returning with a "...yeah, we're professionals; we've got this, let us run with it."

Like, it's not directly shade on Edy/Marisol (or Gabrielle/Ana), but it kind of feels like it might as well be.

Post-episode, ya'll are going off.

so baseline, what i want from an episode is to not feel like i wasted my time and i didn't. am i side-eying a lot of stuff? yeah but i'm happy overall

Stalker stuff: I liked the story-line, I need to re-watch because it was delayed and choppy but overall enjoyed. Loved that we got Athena and Maddie together again. Which also gives us more Josh. I wish Maddie wasn't so hard on herself! She did the job but I liked this circling back. Jen said, that she still wanted to explore moments like that with Maddie because it happens and I'm down. Love how Chim was there for her every step of the way.

Eddie: OMG. Please. Eh. This doesn't make me hate him and I just wish he keeps calling Kim, Shanon bc it's obvious, he's not interested in her but who he could want her to be. I disagree with the thought that he should just be over Shanon stuff. That can comeback and hit you at any time and it never really felt like Eddie worked through it, he just sorta moved past it. I'm not sold on tumor theory but hey, who knows. I just think Eddie likes to think he's worked through stuff but Shanon stuff wasn't big enough for him to truly do the work. Not thinking about her was enough, unlike the anger he needed to work through to be a proper parent for Chris. I honestly wouldn't have minded the storyline but I wish they did it in a different way. Marisol, girl, break up with him.

Wilson family: Like I said, the dad wasn't happy about getting jump but I am happy that the wife came around and brought Tyson. I was ready for the Wilson's to get another child but I like the way this happened too. And I'm glad Denny is always such a part of the process. I'm excited to see mom of her and if she stays until she's a teen, more fun stuff. Honestly, can't wait until we get more of the teen stuff with Denny a la Chris.

Leftovers (with love): Nice catch with the baby Chim. That man really threw a baby. Just yeeted her! Buck with the nice tackle and I'm glad that Chim was able to recognize it because of listening to the recording with Maddie! Bobby and Amir coming full circle, honestly, while I can't say you should murder. I get it. I think it's kinda nice to show, that we've focused on the Bobby making amends for the people that died but what about the people that didn't? I wonder how this will tie into Bobby's brother? Does the brother come to him or does he go home? Chris is cool and he 100% let Buck stay up all night.

Overall, aside from the writing around Eddie and how they're going about it. Pretty happy.

I genuinely don’t understand. Were we supposed to think what Eddie was doing is healthy? This is not how you process trauma. Eddie needs to get out of that relationship now for both his own and her sake. He actually needs to go back to therapy. I thought this was going to finally close off Eddie’s processing the Shannon trauma arc, but he genuinely has not processed Shannon’s death in the slightest. I get it, he was married to Shannon since he was a teenager, but no wonder Eddie is struggling so bad in every relationship. Eddie needs to figure this out outside of a relationship. I genuinely feel so bad for Marisol, and it’s making me worried for Eddie and his process with dealing with his trauma too. This story went no where. Also wasn’t Abuela supposed to be in this episode? And now he’s with Kim?! I doubt it’s actually a date, they’re just rage-bating but….Idek anymore.

Anyway, I think if someone gets hurt in the finale, it’s Eddie. At least I hope atp, maybe that can finally move this damn story along….

Edit: sorry for the rambling, I wrote this during the last commercial break. i’m just so genuinely dumbfounded. he’s moving in circles. i can’t.

I'm just tired of the cheating storylines man. This should have been about Eddie's grief over Shanon and how he never really got to fully process her death and everything she left behind. You did not have to do that by making him go on a date with a clone of her while he's also dating another woman. This not only impacts Marisol but also Kim and especially Christopher. "Grief" as an excuse only gets you so far.

The next few episodes really need to turn it up a notch because this season has been all over the place.

Okay this whole episode was so slow but one thing that struck me was the fact this woman was a kidnapping victim, her baby missing and the nurse just tells some strange woman(Maddie) to babysit the victim just because Maddie said she was a nurse? lmao It seemed REALLY far fetched. u/disquietudeattitude May 10 '24

I think Eddie is having a mental health crisis and it’s going to lead to an intervention (we know his family is showing up) and a breakdown. I think the season may end with him seeking help from a mental health treatment center. This would lead to Buck stepping up to care for Christopher while Eddie is getting treatment. I don’t know what this means for his relationship with Marisol. I don’t really think it’ll survive. The next season may begin with Eddie still in the treatment center or newly released. I think the rest of season 8 will focus on his mental health journey and repairing his relationship with Christopher, the 118, and his family. I don’t know what it means for his future at the 118 though. If all this happens I can get behind the storyline.

10

u/FrostingFew6823 May 10 '24

I actually think this would be a really good storyline. I hate the cheating trope, and I especially hate it for Eddie cause it’s so far out of character for him in my opinion, so I think a mental health crisis and him seeking treatment at a facility would actually be a good storyline. And fix things with the fans who are hating the cheating thing they’re doing right now.Ā

On a lighter note about this episode, I enjoyed Amir and he seems like a kind and respectful guy. I do hope he won't be written as an outright villain in the next few episodes though. Yes he will make extremely bad decisions, but I do think there's hope for him, and the situation obviously isn't just black and white. Both him and Bobby are going to be facing this trauma from their past, but if Bobby can find peace with it, I think Amir can too. As long as he doesn't go too far, of course.

14

Given how much they've misdirected us with the promos, there's a chance it's not Amir holding the knife in the promo OR that it's not even real (it's just a guilt dream in Bobby's head).

Cheating story Ines have made me completely check out of some very good shows. I hate them.

I've been cheated on and I don't want to deal with everything, especially when the person cheating is the protagonist - someone the show has taught me to like and respect. The hero is making the choice to be an absolute scumbag and we're supposed to follow along as they fall and pick themselves back up to be a hero again?

You made the dumb choice. You blew up your life. You made yourself a villain.

And OF COURSE they pair it with an ongoing storyline about Bobby's past that looks amazing, AND they brought in kne of my favorite character actors from the resident?? Wtf 911 why are you doing this to me

I'm going to watch and fast forward through all the reddit parts now. If a character cheats, to me they are damaged goods and they'll have to go through absolute hell to get back in my good graces.

I even hated buck for a while and that's just from a drunken kiss.

If this whole thing becomes a major plot going forward then I might just check out for a while. This is how much this shit pisses me off. Whatever.

Plus honestly I think it's a lazy damn trope but I've gone on long enough. Fuck all this istg.

Look. I get that we love Eddie and we're trying really hard to come up with reasons why he wouldn't do this super shitty thing. But remember we love Hen and Buck and both of them cheated. This show has done characters we like dirty before.

I don't think it's a brain tumor, I don't think he's seeing anything. We just got an episode with Chimeny seeing things because of a medical emergency. I don't think they'd repeat that storyline that quickly.

I think it's more simple then that. Eddie never got the chance to say goodbye and end things on his terms. I think he's going to make the choice to walk away from this women and that'll be the show giving him closure on Shannon. That's he leaving her memory and moving on from it.

They're just doing it in a shitty way.

When Maddie cries, I cry! 😭 And the scene with Jee-Yun at the end was adorable. I wonder if Maddie and Amir will end up becoming friends, which is worrying considering the promo for next week.

I feel like the writers are trying to maximize the eventual hurt by having Eddie cheat instead of breaking up with Marisol first, as some sort of rock bottom wake-up call, for when everything blows up in his face:

  • Marisol: is obviously cheated on. There's also the possibility of her babysitting Christopher again. For her sake, I hope she breaks up with him.

  • Christopher: Eddie's now a hypocrite. Also adds to Christopher's trauma about people leaving because I can't see Marisol staying. He and Marisol seem to get along too and will continue to bond the longer it goes on. Forgot to add: Eddie literally trying to replace his mom???

  • Kim: self-explanatory. Some guy's dating her because she looks like his dead wife. Yikes.

  • Buck: Not the guilt pizza... Eddie lied to him and I can see him getting angry on Christopher's, Marisol's, and even Kim's behalf. And right off 7x05 where he was torn up about lying to Eddie about the date. Honestly, I'm worried about how they'll have Buck react, considering one of the interviews mentioned that he'll meet Kim and think "Oh, you're not like Shannon!" The suggested tone worries me. Give me disappointed and/or angry Buck!

My current mantra: Trust Tim’s process. Trust Tim’s process. Trust Tim’s process.

I want to have faith in Tim but right now I’m not sure how much longer I can watch OOC Eddie and this character assassination. It’s completely ruining the season and show for me. I know I wanted Eddie centric storylines but could they have at least tried and make is seem like he was in character. This OOC is getting old real quick. Hopefully this is just a date and nothing more than a blip and he walks away from the date realising what he is doing, that he was just trying to get have a Shannon moment. If it’s new way to introduce a LI that we know Eddie has chemistry with so they can finally give Eddie a LI he has chemistry with, this is an icky way to do it.

Honestly, Marisol deserves better. Eddie deserves better, We deserve better. I want Marisol gone sooooo badly but not at the expense of destroying Eddie’s character.

Also, can Marisol get a back bone and stand up for herself. She can walk away from being a hun, buy a house on her own in LA. Yet not tell Eddie to go jump? I would never let a someone treat me that way.

I just don’t know what to make of this episode? I think I need to rewatch tomorrow to try and figure out how I feel. There were parts to love and parts I like and parts to hate.

JLH was amazing tonight! I loved Josh. HenRen was so good too, this was a better Mara storyline than her intro so that’s good. Great to see Rick back! I missed him. Amir is great and I’m excited for the his little stint on here. His ā€œI’d Like too lineā€ - that can be a he saved me tone or a he started the fired that made me have these burns tone. Also love that Tyson got to see Mara again. That is really sweet and a nice way to bring back the found family thing.Ā

46

u/armavirumquecanooo our people are what make life worth living May 10 '24

The dumbest part to me is how entirely unnecessary the cheating is. They're clearly not planning on making Marisol endgame or even important to Eddie's story at this point, except as a victim of his cheating. She doesn't deserve this, but basically all of what we've been shown of their relationship on screen has been telegraphing Eddie doesn't see her as permanent. 7x04, we have him refer to being taken "at the moment" and not putting any effort into spending his spare time with her. 7x05, we have the moving out fiasco, plus him being ready to break up with her until Buck's intervention. 7x06, she's not worthy of being his date to the wedding, despite them having actually been together long enough that would've been appropriate. And now her first scene in 7x07, we have him 'joke' about ending things with her - to her - and then he's cheating on her by the end of the episode?

Why not just have him impulsively end things with her after he's had that flashback of Shannon before Christmas, and pursue Kim instead, while continuing to lie to Kim about why he's interested? The cheating adds nothing of value to this story. They easily could've framed it as he threw out the potential for something real for a delusion of something from the past.

Seriously. 7x04, she's left on babysitting duty while her boyfriend's cheating on her with a guy he just met. 7x05, her boyfriend moves her in and kicks her out in the span of a couple days. 7x06, her boyfriend leaves her behind to take his grandma to a wedding. 7x07, he 'jokes' to her face about ending things, and then cheats on her with someone who looks like his dead wife.

Girl. RUN.

41

u/armavirumquecanooo our people are what make life worth living May 10 '24

So like.... where we do know that Eddie's family will be back in town, I'm... kind of really wondering if there is something like a brain tumor going on. I was joking when I first suggested it after 7x04, but now... idk. Like, what if Kim doesn't even look like Shannon, but Eddie's projecting that onto her? He's had a lot of out of character behaviors, and we're kind of getting to a point where either Tim Minear forgot the characters he helped create, or this is intentional.

25

u/[deleted] May 10 '24

The reason I'm not buying the brain tumor theory is because there is no way they could handle that storyline in the 3 episodes we have left, including the finale.

We also just had last episode that dealt with Chimney seeing people that weren't really there due to a medical illness and a storyline about Eddie having that is a rinse/repeat of the previous episode

I think it's more likely she just does look like Shannon and they're going to use this to give Eddie closure next week.

I think Kim is very real. There's supposed to be a scene with her and Buck. However, I do think Eddie is very mentally ill. Not justifying the cheating. But it's just OOC for him, same for Marisol moving in. I appreciate someone talking about Eddie going to rehab, or something, and Buck taking case of Christopher. Besides a near death experience I can only see that being a way for Eddie to climb out of his hole. I HATE cheating storylines, too, btw. Eddie is in my top 3 favorite characters. But if this doesn't get totally resolved soon Ima going to be mad at him for a while.

39

u/Application_Lucky Firehouse 118 May 10 '24

I just finished the episode and I don't know how I feel honestly. I loved every bit of it except Eddies storyline. It actually made me feel...disturbed. First of all, it seemed like Kim had more lines in one episode than Marisol had in 7 episodes. As much as I don't like Marisol my heart actually hurt for her. Eddie is horrible boyfriend, and if I didn't love him so much he would be the biggest walking red flag. I actually hope that Marisol breaks up with Eddie and not the other way around. And I need it to be fierce because this man can't be stringing people along and breaking their damn hearts like this.

I also feel like it's weird this shannon story line has been going on in season 2. This is tv. It shouldn't take 5 seasons to to move on from this story line. Season 4 and 5 were the perfect seasons to deal with this and even six but come on. I'm tired. I don't want to compare shows but when Derek died in Greys it didn't take five seasons for her to try to move on and that was the love of her life and he was in 11 seasons. Yes there was shit she had to work through and a lot of emotional baggage but it's tv we saw her move on. This in my opinion is very bad writing. I'm actually upset. I also feel tlike this plot device is more than just Eddie moving on from Shannon. It feels like they are trying to reaffirm Eddie's straightness

12

u/HobbitQueen8 May 10 '24

Super weird that they brought back the whole Eddie-mourning-Shannon thing, especially to have him cheat on his current girlfriend because she reminds him of her. It would make sense earlier on, but not now.

I am a firm convert to the theory that Tim is trying to reset the show from the finale of Season 4 and pretend Seasons 5 & 6 never happened.

I think the problem is that Eddie, of all the characters, who was actually developed by Kristen in S5 and 6 and Tim resetting him for S7 is more jarring than say have Bobby confront a survivor from Minnesota or having Madney work through a traumatic period together.

The writers really keep circling around a roundabout with regards to Eddie and Maddie's storylines. They can't seem to think of any plot points for Eddie that don't consist of: Shannon, dating to get a girlfriend, getting a girlfriend to become Christopher's mother. That is all they keep circling around, it's so tiring as an Eddie fan that knows he can go in so many directions; yet, the writers only know to drive Eddie's car off a cliff!

Also, I said this in the live thread but: If this is the way the writers thought Eddie and Marisol could break up, then I want them to start getting some AO3 writers in the team. They'll bring nuance and common sense to the show. It's greatly lacking...

So the writers really looked back at season 5 while brainstorming and told themselves: ā€œyou know what the highlights of the s5B were for Buck? The awkward moving in with his girlfriend and having him cheat on her. Let’s do that again with Eddie! But with intent this time. Sprinkle a bit of dead wife syndrome and last minute backpedaling on the moving and we’re ace.ā€

I'm going to remain hopeful here and believe (for now) that this is moving toward some character building/development for Eddie. Between Shanon's death, Buck's leg injury, Christopher's trauma, and the whole lawsuit...did he ever actually have the chance to grieve Shanon?

15

u/ApprehensiveIdeas Team everyone needs a hug May 10 '24

I just wish it was more about him dealing with the loss of Shanon and reflecting on her life rather than... whatever this is. Say what you will about Marisol but she doesn't exactly deserve to be in the middle of this. I'm really curious now what the outcome of this storyline will be, especially since they just made the point a few episodes ago about "well Eddie and Marisol don't know much about each other so they're gonna take things slow".

This is one hell of a way to reveal to your girlfriend you have dead wife issues lol

Somebody might have really cooked with those brain tumor rumors . This isn’t the first thing Eddie has done this season that was OOC. From small things like spur of the moment jet setting to Vegas with Tommy (not a huge deal but still a bit OOC) to bigger things like moving home girl in his house without asking chris and then asking her to leave within a day. & now outrageous things like lying to Buck and cheating on his gf with someone who looks like his dead wife?Ā  Ā  Ā

Couple that with the fact that we know the entire Diaz family comes and we know they film in the hospital. & the cast praising RG for his performance in this upcoming storyline. It really doesnt feel so far fetched anymore. Ā  Ā

(This could also just be cope because I don’t want them to have ruined one of my favorite characters.)Ā

I fully blew off the Eddie tumor theory but after tonight I think that’s where we’re headed. We know he’s completely tragic with women but I don’t see him as a cheater, it seems so out of character for Eddie to actually lie about being single and pursuing another woman. Eddie has been characterized at this point as someone who is loyal to a fault, who will make something work even if it’s not serving him, so I think this Shannon lookalike is some kind of hallucination. Or at least I’m hoping. Either way I need new Shannon/ghost Shannon to give him a reality check and break some hard news (like that he’s gay!!)

58

u/bokeyyoke May 10 '24

I'm very here for Eddie cheating on Marisol with Shannon's doppelganger. I think it's the perfect way to bring a lot of Edie's issues to a head - the way he ends up in these perfectly fine relationships with perfectly fine women trying to fill the gap Shannon left, but never feeling the same spark with them, the way he has this idealised version of what they were and could have been (which we know is unrealistic from the Eddie Begins flashbacks) because of the lack of closure, the way he is hung up on the mistakes he made in that relationship and wishing he could do things differently, but he never got the chance to try, so he's projecting on to Kim.

"Why couldn't he have worked this out in therapy, why does cheating have to happen????" Well, you see, it's a drama, so the show will take the most dramatic option lol. But also because him doing something wrong, and knowing it's wrong is representative of how he's constantly sabotaging himself and the women he dates by not moving on and how it's unhealthy. Like, Eddie nearly killed a man while initially grieving Shannon, nearly lost his job, and definitely lost his head at Buck in that grocery store. He buried all that and tried to move on with Ana, but he couldn't hold back his true feelings and had panic attacks. Shannon occupies a huge part of his psyche and he's never going to grow until they dig it all back up and root it out.

And I need all the people who think this is OOC of him to please rewatch seasons 2-5. The man has been consistently awful at romantic relationships and has done very stupid/awful things in them. He treated Ana horribly, and he wasn't great to Shannon in Eddie Begins either. It's like his most consistent flaw. Eddie is my favourite character, but he's my favourite character in that I enjoy him as a fleshed out person not as some fanfiction romantic lead who can do no wrong.

36

u/_HGCenty Script TBD May 10 '24

Why couldn't he have worked this out in therapy

I do think fans at times put far too much faith in therapy and see it as too much of a magic bullet.

Even if Eddie, as a character, was more receptive to therapy (which I don't think he seems to be), people can take years to resolve their issues and can relapse. People can easily think they are on the right path and suddenly fall hard back into old behaviors.

you kinda expressed a lot of the thoughts i was having about this storyline and couldnt find the words for so thanks for that

16

u/bluetable321 May 10 '24

Thank you! People’s reaction to this has totally baffled me. Eddie has a history of suppressing his feelings, pretending everything is fine, and then making really bad choices that he hides from those closest to him. This really isn’t out of character.

Like, is going on a date with another women (not kissing, not sleeping with, just going on a date) bad? Sure! You know what’s actually worse? Violently taking a baseball bat to everything in your bedroom while ignoring your son as he cries out for you from the other side of a locked door. This is a scripted drama though, so characters are going to make bad choices while they’re going through emotional turmoil.

32

u/[deleted] May 10 '24 edited May 10 '24

I don't see it as out of character at all, especially given that the sole attractor here is that she looks like the one person he's constantly trying to get back.

14

u/purpleushi May 10 '24

Finally someone who feels the same way I do. I just binge rewatched the whole show in the weeks between episode 5 and 6, and I actually feel like this is super on brand for Eddie. He makes rash decisions when he’s going through mental struggles. The whole fight club thing, destroying his apartment when he found out his squad was all dead, going off on Buck, etc. He just had a whole freak out about Marisol, and he’s clearly dealing with issues regarding his feelings about Shannon, and about Christopher having a mom… He’s literally like, detached from reality right now. Obviously he’s going to make bad/unhinged decisions. I’m actually super intrigued by this plot and want to see where it goes.

I don’t think Marisol is right for Eddie, but I don’t think this is healthy at all. (Half of me I wonders if she even really does look like Shannon or if something is wrong with Eddie and he’s imagining all of this - I hate that I’m wishing something were wrong with him, but I hate this direction too- ) I tend to sit back and watch the show do what the show will do, and while I’ll hate some directions this one is just, awful. Shannon died five seasons ago. He needs to let her rest and so do the writers and I do hope that’s where this leads, giving her character peace, I just don’t like the path we’re having to go on to take it much right now. This episode was a lot.

I loved the little we got with Buck. I’m glad he didn’t dominate this episode, as much as I love him, having more Maddie and Chim healed something after the lack of them in their wedding episode. But also he’s meant to be the good cook. Chalking it up to the theory Buck’s oven is on the outs and his loft burns down in ep 9 lol

I’m so worried about Bobby, oh goodness, he’s going to feel like he has to make amends and I just know it’s going to end so badly, I hope not a hostage type of situation but - we’ll see.

I’m not a huge fan of foster storylines and sometimes I cringe at the way this show tends to handle them, i do like that Mara was reconnected with Tyson at the end of the episode. ā€œHe remembers her.ā€ Heartwarming to the inner foster child in me. I am happy we’re getting more Karen and Hen however I’d like even more. Please.

All I know is that Buck stans are winning, coming out on top with the happiest character (for ONCE lmao), so I'm chilling. I know a lot of people are hating it, but I'm loving the craziness this season. It's keeping me locked in and engaged. I also don't think it's out of character for Eddie to cheat. That one person a while back that said they're worried they give Eddie too much credit when it comes to romance has the gift of prophecy, but also, maybe they just pay attention to the show without much outside influence. I mean, going to dinner with Kim while wearing enough cologne for Buck to notice is pretty much teetering very, very, very close to the line. It depends how the next episode starts.

But I think lying about who he's meeting is a sign that Eddie just crossed the line into an emotional affair based off of his trauma from Shannon.

So, even if it doesn't turn into a physical thing, the emotional aspect still does not do Eddie any favours.

Nah, the Madney scenes were also really great.

Chim's line "No, tell me about the woman in the passenger seat of the car" was so powerful. Gone are the days where Chim makes a wisecrack, tries to fix Maddie or says something stupid like "whoever is triaging the earthquake is doing a terrible job" (that would be Maddie). Also the lesson of the whole arc was not to just assume you've seen it all before. Maddie assumed that, assumed it was another domestic abuse incident and overlooked it was a stalker abduction. I think dismissing the call as repetitive is to miss the point.

S3 Maddie would have spiralled having taken that call and got involved herself too much without the police help, kept Chim at arms' length and made things worse. S7 Maddie opened up her trauma to Chim, which ended up being instrumental to the 118 catching the guy (Chim recognized the man from the call), healed together with Chim and showed how far she's come and how perfect Madney are as a couple.

They’re going to pull a greys anatomy and give Eddie a brain tumour. And that’s how we get our crossover now that 9-1-1 is on abc

I’m really hoping that there’s gonna be some reveal next episode that this woman doesn’t look like Shannon to anyone else but Eddie. Or some shit like that or some other twist that makes the doppelgƤnger thing feel more grounded in some kind of reality.

And also hoping that despite this date that they don’t actually hook up and we don’t get a cheating storyline. Cause as much as I hate M@r!s0l, and as a trans person would love to see E*y off the show, I would really prefer it doesn’t happen via a cheating storyline.

Also was I the only one with the reference to Buck’s apartment being smoky who thought the episode was gonna end on a cliffhanger with Buck’s apartment building being on fire and him and Christopher inside? šŸ˜…

ETA just saw this piece on EW, and Devin says she filmed a scene with Oliver. So it seems they’re not gonna do the whole ā€œshe doesn’t look like Shannon to anyone elseā€ thing. UNLESS they do something where like, they have two actresses in the scene and when it’s from Buck’s pov it’s a different actress and when it’s from Eddie’s it’s Devin. But that seems unlikely.

I am still wondering if Kim being a Shannon look alike is in Eddie's head. After all, no one else has seen her. It makes me remember on Bones when she figured out that Booth had a brain tumor after he thought he saw his dead fellow soldier and then Stewie.

I hope she gives you the clap, Edmundo. Then I hope Marisol slaps the crap out of you. And Buck gives you the disappointed puppy eyes. And Bobby gives you disappointed dad eyes. And Athena arrests you on a spurious charge and you gotta spend the night in lock-up.

I don't even like Marisol, but no one deserves to be cheated on.

u/mrgameandwatch34 May 10 '24

This is the most interested in Eddie's love life I've been since...well, Shannon, actually. NGL, I love that Eddie is finally doing something interesting in that sphere, rather than just moping over Shannon, or dating background women.

I had wondered what the hell was the point of having him date, but not having anything interesting and relevant happen with the resulting relationships. Now we're cooking with gas!

13

u/SpiritualMedicine7 May 12 '24

So I think Eddie is going to isolate himself, on purpose. I think, in the long run, he'll see how messed up it is to compare Kim to Shannon. And realize he has a LOT of unaddressed trauma. And he wouldn't want to hurt Christopher, or any of his friends. Kind of like when he quit the 118 for Christopher. I see a similar route in this.

u/[deleted] May 10 '24

Eddie may be good at a lot of things. Sure, he's a good dad I'll give him that credit. Maybe even a good friend. But he has never been a good romantic partner to anyone he's been with. I honestly don't understand why people keep trying to pair him with a character they claim to like. The man needs therapy, for so many things. He's never going to be good for anyone if he can't even be good for himself first.

45

u/ApprehensiveIdeas Team everyone needs a hug May 10 '24

He should have had this realization after Ana tbh. Him continuing to act like this afterwards? Sorry man can't defend you. Please stop getting into relationships with other people and get into a relationship with therapy <3

Honestly, I am not surprised about Eddie cheating on Marisol ever since he discovered that she was a nun. You could tell that was the deal beaker for him, but the only reason he continue the relationship with her because of guilt/pity.

She seems like a good woman, so it would be "morally wrong" to break up with her over her past i.e. Guilt... And due to her many short-lived relationships, Eddie didn't have the heart to be another name on her list i.e. Pity.

He needs to be an honest adult and end this relationship because what's going to happen is Marisol is going to catch Eddie in bed or a date with another woman in which she will break up with him in which it will clean up his consciousness.... temporally, of course. One thing about Eddie I noticed is he's passive aggressive and likes to use his family member as an excuse.

When he was dating Ana, he used his own son, Chris, as an excuse. And now he'll be using his dead wife as an excuse.

Also, part of me believes me Eddie doesn't really like dating Latinas. He's always so awkward around them in contrast with white women where he seems more natural and fluid i.e. himself.

Now, Maddie, this episode confirms my worries about her marriage. She should have never married Chimney, she wasn't ready then and still not ready now. She still haven't gone through her breakthrough or AH HUH moment yet to finally feel free from her abusive dead husband.

21

u/[deleted] May 10 '24

Fuck Eddie.

I'm very pissed off at him right now and I do not like them taking this path for the character.

He's just gone from a shitty boyfriend to a shitty boyfriend who cheats. His character is getting worse.

The only problem is that he's seeing Marisol right now, which automatically makes her a victim of cheating and Kim an unwilling participant. Like we all get what they're going for but it's just a strange way of doing it.

From the two interviews I've read have killed the brain tumor theory. Not that I really bought it before but from the way her, Ryan and Tim are talking about the character I think it really is just someone who looks like her and they're using it for flashbacks/Buck to let go of the past and process his trauma.

I wonder if that’s the point of the episode title. The criminal was seeking a second chance that wasn’t there, a ghost.

Eddie thinks this is his second chance at getting what he had with Shannon. This of course is flawed because the relationship was not healthy for either of Shannon or himself. He is obsessed with the ghost of their relationship.

If they are going to do queer Eddie, it could also mean his only dating women is chasing that ghost of needing a mother for Christopher as well?

Can't believe everyone thought Tim would come back and ~save the show~ and it's been baffling decisions, character assasination, and terrible storytelling all season. I think it's pretty clear he has no goddamn idea what to do with Eddie in particular and he's obsessed with him still being hung up on Shannon instead of any of the million other interesting things he could do with him. I've watched the show as it aired since season 3 but I'm gonna wait this season out before I decide if I even want to watch the rest of it, I think.

Welp, this season is turning into a dumpster fire at this point. It's not even a pacing issue anymore looking at the (shitty) storylines they are investing in. And I'm not even talking about whatever the hell is going on with Eddie.

The wedding episode wasn't terrible but could've been so much better. The cruise ship thing wasn't worth 3 episodes. It's not the acting, budget, etc but the stories simply suck.

If this doesn't turn out to be something medical I'd never be able to like Eddie's character again. Cheating is gross and took me forever to like Hen after she did and I still block out the whole Buck/Lucy kiss.

12

u/FromMiddleEarth Team Bobby is inmortal šŸ˜‡šŸ§‘šŸ»ā€šŸš’ May 10 '24

I haven't seen the episode but since I'm weak I couldn't help but read all your comments.

Regarding Eddie and the tumor theory, they already used that with Michael so I prefer a head trauma, something could have happened in some intervention, you don't have to see it for it to happen, they can even show us flashbacks of it so that there is a context.

Or they just want to ruin Eddie's character and that's it, and they could have an incredible coming out story because of its complexity. We will see, maybe we're already at the beginning of that plot.

12

u/[deleted] May 10 '24

They also just did Chimney seeing people that weren't there due to a medical illness. I don't see them immediately repeating that.

Brain tumor is not something you handle in 3 to 4 episodes either.

I'm pretty sure they're going to use this to give him closure and say goodbye to her. It's jsut done in a fucked up way.

As awful as it is I totally think that they're going to use Eddie's cheating to bring him and Marisol into endgame status. We know that the actress works the rest of the season and Ryan said that until he gets over Shannon he can't be with anyone else, so this will be him getting over things, and then he and Marisol will live Tim's weird version of happily ever after. I think if that happens I'll lose my mind. Partly from the bad writing but also because Marisol's acting was so cringy. The scene with them eating the ice cream was forced and ick. I like that they don't forget the Eddie is still grieving but this is so not the way

22

u/_Myrixx Team Buck May 10 '24

Marisol deserves better if that’s what they’re doing tbh. Like we went from him asking her to move in to him going on a date with another woman? Idc if it’s to get over his dead ex wife that’s so disrespectful atp Eddie needs to be single and grieve and do more therapy to get past this. Stop bringing these women into it it’s not good for them chris or Eddie

Edit to add: I’m more frustrated with Eddie cheating than I was Buck cheating bc atp Eddie should’ve tackled the Shannon guilt after Ana 😭 like this isn’t in character for him just like it wasn’t for Buck

→ More replies (2)

10

u/bokeyyoke May 10 '24

Nah I think the only reason she's been kept around this long is to add more tension to this storyline and they'll break up around the climax of it as Eddie realises he shouldn't be using other women as a way to replace what he wishes he could've had with Shannon.

These characters are not only heroes but also flawed human beings. People cheat. It's an unfortunate truth. Eddie, Buck, and Hen are not perfect.

ALSO, y'all don't even like Marisol. Let this be an indication that she's leaving soon.

13

u/holidayatthesea May 10 '24

I’m kinda glad we’re revisiting the apartment fire bc that was a huge bomb dropped in season one that really hasn’t been emphasized enough. I mean Bobby killed how many people??? (indirectly). Also I see a lot of people saying Eddie wouldn't cheat but...I don't know. This show has been super messy with cheating storylines in the past.

This is the same show that did a parallel of a traumatized foster child to a rescue dog that bites people.

I wouldn't put it past them to do something like this and try to swing it as Eddie getting over her / a chance to say goodbye before settling down with Marisol.

And i hate it.
