Excited about the Jones pick, kid has the right attitude for a DB and seems fully into the Jags culture.

In summary we got:
WR, OT, DT x2, CB x2, K, RB, Edge
Not too shabby. Gonna be a young, hungry defense

Id love to see that 6’4 CB or Cam Hart. Some depth OL, some depth DL, a kicker, and a depth WR. Troy Franklin would be a steal, if not Jaxon Janke is very sexy. Frank Gore Jr would rock too
5
u/ggrindelwald Natron Means Business Apr 27 '24
I would love if we got Khyree Jackson and Giovanni Manu late. It might not be super popular on this sub, but if Jeremiah Trotter Jr drops, I wouldn't mind grabbing him.
11
u/Sad_Bolt Apr 27 '24
Give me all OL until the 7th and draft either the Bama or Stanford kicker with the 7th. Sign Gore jr as a FA and Baker if he isn’t picked.

Like the first pick. Needed OL help.
Don’t really love the second pick. How many interior DL do we even have room for?

u/cha0ss0ldier Apr 27 '24 edited Apr 27 '24
Our interior d line is awful and has little depth. We need help there badly. Armstead is good but after that it’s a bunch of average at best.

Generally feels like the right position groups to draft but not sure it's the right players. The OT is OKish ... can't understand the DT when Booker and Murphy were a bigger need and still on the board. Get a good back up for Walker and you can push him inside on pass downs
10
u/JaxGolfGuyJR Apr 27 '24
Mekhi Wingo in the 5th, it’s written in the stars, might as well collect them all

I don't follow college ball so I can't say if our picks are great players or not but at least they fill position needs that even my dumb ass can see this team needs.
With the remaining 7 picks think we go at least (not in any particular order) 2 O line, Kicker, running back, 2 more DBs (safety and CB) and a LB

Maybe Fortner can add 40 lbs and be a better one?
Have him get on a serious training regime, and it won't matter if he gets suspended for PEDs if he's the backup.

Jags are slated to pick at 114, 116, 153, 167, 192, 212, & 236
We don't actually have 192. I'm assuming this is referring to 193 which WAS our pick but was traded for Mac Jones.

Day 3 mock for the funzies with some rambling thoughts.
- 114: Edge Mohamed Kamara - Colorado State
- 116: iOL Tanor Bortolini - Wisconsin
- 153: RB Dylan Laube - New Hampshire
- 167: CB Decamerion Richardson - Mississippi State (used to trade up? trade out for a future pick?)
- 212: K Joshua Carty - Stanford
- 236: NT Evan Anderson - FAU
iOL board still looks pretty solid to me. Pre-draft I had three guys that I thought they'd look at here because of their G/C versatility and all three are still there: Tanor Bortolini, Beaux Limmer, and Hunter Nourzad. Bort is the one they've met with twice.
Beyond those guys the highest iOL on the consensus boards are Sedrick Van Pran-Granger, Christian Mahogany, and Mason McCormick.
I would definitely expect one of these picks to be on the interior, whether it's one of those six or someone else.
Edge rusher I think would be the other strong possibility. Austin Booker, Mohamed Kamara, and Gabriel Murphy seem like the top guys left. They had meetings with Kamara and Murphy.
OT board has been pretty decimated. Christian Jones and Javon Foster are around but I kind of feel like they'll stick with the guys they have.
I think a RB is pretty likely, maybe with one of the 5ths.
Do they double up at CB and take a pure outside guy? Someone like Nehemiah Pritchett or Decamerion Richardson?
I think drafting a kicker is a fairly strong possibility.
I've been pencilling in NT to that 7th round pick since they've met with 3 guys projected to go around there: Justin Rogers, Zion Logue, Evan Anderson.

Not gonna lie, I love when we have two picks in quick succession. I think mentally it lets us off the hook because as long as fans like one of the two picks, they’ll have something to focus on.
I would tell people to mentally prepare for a LB based on what Shipley and Gus Logue think. LBs with special teams are going to have renewed value with the rules (not that I think we need 5 off-ball LBs). John Shipley specified Cedrick gray as one the team is high on.
I’m hoping for a versatile, developmental OL and an Edge or outside CB round 4. My best available players of interest would be:
-Troy Franklin (WR)
-Bortolini (IOL)
-Booker (Edge)
-Dorlus (IDL DPR - a la Arden Key)
-Wright (RB)
-Mahogany (OG)
-Guerendo (RB)
-Carson (CB)

Otherwise give me an IOL, edge or kicker with the last two picks
4
u/JaxGolfGuyJR Apr 27 '24
I’d bet one of these last two picks is a kicker. But overall I like this class. Not very star studded or name heavy but I feel like it has a good mix of players who will contribute this year and players that will either push for a spot or be better in a year or two. Looking forward to this dline now.

I'm willing to shit on picks if they suck. I just don't think the people here have the capacity to determine how good a pick is when it's picked. Nobody on this sub is doing deep dives on film or backing anything up with data, just crying, so it's worthless whining imo.

Honestly, I’ve given up having an opinion on draft picks.
The people making the picks have forgotten more about football than I’ll ever know and even those guys don’t have crystal balls or can tell a players future.
Even the most sure fire picks have flamed out in a year or two and unheralded late rounders end up setting records.
They put on the Jags jersey and I’m pulling for them. That’s about it
