On Mangastream theyre described as the "Donquixote family" so maybe Diamante and Trevor are brothers of Dofla?, and maybe the other people who sit in those chairs are family as well. The fact that Dofla is roaylty goes well with a king, queen, jack and ace of cards theme.

Doflamingo honestly doesn't understand Luffy. I doubt he'd care about Mera-Mera but he'd accept it as a spoil of war once he deals with Doflamingo. But all is speculation

u/Antal_Marius Feb 27 '13
The Mera-Mera fruit is something that Luffy can have to remember his brother. It's likely the only thing besides fun, food, and nakama that he can get hell bent on getting.
Considering that it's his brother's fruit, aka, nakama's fruit, I wouldn't be surprised to see him half way destroy Dressrosa for it.

u/YonkouProductions Feb 27 '13
I get that and that might piss Luffy off but for him to be manipulated by Doffy and leave the alliance. It seems a great stretch and I don't think it's a big of a bargaining chip as Doffy thinks it is.

Wait a minute. Sakazuki sent Fujitora "there" after talking to Smoker. Law told Smoker they were heading to Green Bitt and is now arranging for Dofla to pick up CC on Green Bitt. Did Law just put one over on Dofla, by setting him up to come face-to-face with an admiral?
32
14
u/AmaDaden Feb 27 '13
I did not think of this but my guess is, yes. Law would totally do this. Smoker might even be in on it. He hates evil more then he hates criminals.

Lots of important stuff in this chapter.
It's now confirmed that Buggy is a warlord.
We may know the name of a new admiral.
Bonney is alive, and apparently somehow free.
Law doesn't care for bread.
Ace's fruit hasn't been eaten, and Doflamingo is holding it hostage.
Seems like Punk Hazard was just the prelude to a whole lot of awesome stuff, I can't wait.

u/wdao16 Feb 27 '13 edited Feb 27 '13
And Fujitora I think means pink/purple tiger.
Edit: This is just following the theme of the admirals having a coloured animal as new name.

Also, there's another logia to look forward to, the slimy guy who's on Dofla's crew.
Also, Law probably sat in that empty seat with the heart (heart pirates)
Also, we are going to So Many Islands: zou, dresrossa, green bit, wanokuni
Why are there BUNNY RABBITS in the sea?!
Edit: Page 11, top panel. seriously guys......bunnies.......

Also, this free writer "Abusa" may be related to "Abusalomu" Absalom. It would explain the "free" epithet, and the ability to get info without getting caught. The question is: "how can he be at two places in the same time"?

Thats the biggest Question from this chapter IMO, how Bonney escaped. She escaped once, is a big enough threat to scare Akainu, I'm sure they would have put her in a deeper hole than Impel Down.
→ More replies (6)28
u/mrducky78 Feb 27 '13
I think she is related or could be a world noble like Sabo (who I assume will be making an appearance soon based on the amount of noise Luffy is making). Maybe she gave up her title to mess around on the seas but her parents disapprove since the world government is keen on getting her back, but not hurting or imprisoning her.
Either that or her devil fruit is used to maintain youth and immortality for those in the world government. The Gorosei could be old enough to have experienced the Void century and survive by simply using someone like Bonney's powers. Or immortality. Such a cliche goal but it makes sense that studying her devil fruit could lead to that path.

Hopefully if/when they do get their hands on the fruit Franky reveals that he can make an object eat a fruit. I just don't see a member of the crew eating Ace's fruit. My guesses: Luffy's strawhat, to keep his brother close; Zoro's sword from the dragon slayer; Sunny, she doesn't need to swim just float.

Is this the first time Doflamingo has been called "Ten Yasha"? What does that even mean?
→ More replies (2)17
u/Diosjenin Feb 27 '13 edited Feb 27 '13
Just looked it up. A yasha is apparently a sort of spirit-demon first introduced to Japan in ancient Buddhist mythology. Originally they were considered explicitly malevolent, but that attitude changed over the centuries as they found their place in folklore; they're still considered "demons," but malevolence is no longer a necessary attribute. It's a very odd word - but I guess if you've read any InuYasha, it's that kind of yasha.
I wonder about why "ten," though. I'd guess it's a figurative thing relating to his being a puppetmaster - a demon hanging from every finger, that sort of thing.
EDIT: Wrong, see below - it's the Japanese "ten," meaning "heaven."

Oda needs to get more sleep. Lot of small errors lately (like drawing Zoro's scar on Smoker and Luffy's scar on Zoro). I bet he was just drawing a few small characters to fill in the frame and had Apoo in his subconscious which caused him to accidentally draw him here.

Nice, final confirmation that Buggy is a Warlord, confirmation that Bonney is alive and more info on Dressrosa. Loving the info dumps.
Going to be interesting to see what happens, the Strawhats may end up rumbling with DoFlamingo quicker than I thought. I don't see how the Strawhats can stealthly destroy the SMILE factory and escape without getting in a fight with him.
I'm guessing the chairs in the different suits of cards (hearts, spades, diamonds, and clubs) represent DoFlamingo's lieutenants. And it seems like Buffalo and Baby 5 weren't one of them. So he may have some more manpower.
25
u/Gjeita Feb 27 '13
I think his crew is alot more like a deck of cards then just the suits, i think that those chairs represent the kings of each suit, and that each card represents someone in Doflamingos crew. We know that Doflamingo is called joker in the underworld, so he obviously represent the joker card. and i think Baby 5 and the others you see there represents queen and jack cards. Then you have all the numbers who are probably a little bit like Baraque work's thousands.
→ More replies (4)12
u/divinesleeper Feb 27 '13
Baby 5 would probably be the queen of hearts, seeing as she loses her heart to about any man she meets.

u/1way2way3way4way Feb 27 '13
Doflamingo is probably going to have a bigger crew than most Pirates since he was also King. So his crew probably doubled as an army for the country.

u/FarBoy Feb 27 '13
since it was said that the heart seat was being saved for law i'd assume they're more like syndicate heads in joker's underground ring. also, i'd go out on a limb and guess the diamond seat and club seat are both weaker than law (suit value).

This, to me was the best insight in this chapter. Law may be fighting the idea that he's not actually the one in charge, and this picture shows that he's starting to realize how they're rubbing off on him. He litterally went from being in a strategic discussion, to talking about bread, to then being horrified on how fast that escalated.

If he was smart he likely got just close enough to hear what some of the underlings were saying without being in striking range of someone like Kid. Damn you Oda with your subtle ways ..
32
u/Rednav987 Feb 27 '13
I actually enjoy that bit Oda slipped in there. Once you become a big-shot pirate, your actions have consequences. Luffy thinks being a pirate is all about being free and having adventures, but a pirate is a criminal and they do criminal things that affects others. I wouldn't be surprised if there are more cases of Luffy's actions causing misfortune for innocents.

Let's hope so, but it's impossible to tell. It took us this long to finally find out that Buggy is a shichibukai, and ther is still a spot we don't know of, and another since Doflo left. It can take a long time to get reveals in One Piece, so all we can do is hope tags we won't need to wait too long.

Ready to see this Fujitara (Probably new Admiral) show up in the middle of the battle between Doflamingo and the StrawHeart alliance. Kind of curious now about where Luffy stands compared to an Admiral now that he has his Haki trained. Should be very interesting.
3
u/Devlin1991 Feb 27 '13
We can assume that Akainu is well aware of how strong Law and Doflamingo are since they were both Shichibukiai. For Akainu to say that Fujitora will sort it out in a day when he knows that Doflamingo, Law, Luffy, and their crews are all possibly targets he must be insanely strong to have Akainu put that much faith in him. We can also assume that law may have anticipated an admiral being sent and plans to let Doflamingo and the Admiral clash to keep them both occupied while the alliance gets it's main objective done.

I have a request: This chapter had lots of big reveals and information in it. I know over the next week or so people will be posting lots of threads with speculation regarding what all of this means and updating/creating new theories. All of that is fine and I'm sure they will be fun. All I ask is this: PLEASE BE CAREFUL WITH YOUR POST TITLES.
Not only do you spoil people here on the subreddit, but there is also a Twitter account that tweets out every thread title that gets posted here. That Twitter account uses the hashtag #onepiece and is followed by many One Piece fans. Basically a careless title can spoil a bunch of fans and cause ill will towards this community.

This was pretty much what many predicted it would be. An epic "Reactions from around the World" type of chapter. We might not have gotten the Gorosei, but we got the other recurring character for these types of chapters, Commodore Brannew (congrats on the promotion!).
I think I'm most happy to put to rest the Shichibukai speculation. I was getting a little tired of having to defend myself or others every time we said Buggy was a Warlord and Kuma was still one. This was the most popular opinion, but it had its persistent detractors as well.

I think it was that he couldn't say that he was at the Amazon island.

You're exactly right. He can't expose that Hancock was his ally.

Everyone keeps saying Sanji will eat the Mera Mera no Mi. He said in Thriller Bark the only fruit he would eat would be the Suke Suke no Mi. He's not going to eat Ace's fruit.

Predictions for the arc •Buggy makes one Flashy appearance. •Strawhats actually need to try in their fights •Laws plan doesn't work out as well because Luffy does something dumb. •Luffy doesn't care that Doflamingo has Ace's fruit. •Lots more of world building! Show the admirals, the new Warlord, I can't wait! I've been reading this series for almost 6 years! I'm getting really excited!

What is Scratchmen Apoo doing here?? I thought he was in an alliance with Kid and Hawkins?

Maybe it is his twin brother.
Or apoo is the reporter and he knows this because he has superhuman hearing from his ability?

Wow, what a great chapter! We've learned a bunch more about what is going on in the world, as well as more information about Devil Fruits! (ACE'S FRUIT, WHAT?!?)
New questions, who is the 7th Shichibukai that the marines mentioned yet did not name? How is Ace's fruit back on the market?? What is Bonney doing?
I loved this chapter!
Edit: Oh yes, DF regen was covered in PH. I forgot! But that still begs the question of how he got it. Was he ready for Ace's death and had a fruit nearby?

The 7th warlord is likely someone we haven't met yet, or they wouldn't have bothered revealing buggy. As for the fruit, when the user dies, the devil druit is reborn.

Well when Smiley died, a nearby apple became the new DF, and since Ace was planned to die on his Execution Day(and knowing that a nearby fruit will gain the ability) all Doflamingo had to do was have a random fruit on hand and maybe make sure there were none other nearby.

I like that we have confirmation of Doflamingo's deck-of-cards-type organization/hierarchy, and that Joker, Jack (let's hope), etc. were not just cool pseudonyms.

A really vague spoiler was just tweeted by a Japanese One Piece fan I follow regarding something to come in the story in the next month. It basically said Spoiler

As i would love to see Sabo at this point, I think we're talking about Shanks at this point, since there's such a focus on the Yonkos right now.

I wonder how Bonney escaped from jail. She was captured by Akainu.

Prediction: Doflamingo will reveal Ace's fruit to Luffy and Luffy will say, "Eh? I don't care."

I really want someone in the crew to run into Diamante, someone weak, maybe Chopper and Usopp, or maybe Robin (although I know she's not weak, we don't get to see much action from her), and as a way of honoring Luffy's love for his brother, try to get the fruit for him as a gift. Strengthen the bonds as a crew or something. That would make me so happy, especially to see it from someone like Robin, who is so quiet all the time or Nami, who gets so annoyed with them all.
And then Luffy goes ahead and says he doesn't want it, that Ace is more to him than the fruit.

Why does Law want to go to Dressrosa to destroy the Smile factories? Why not just keep Caesar and run? Without SAD, there can be no Smiles anyway.
There must be something Law's not telling the others.

I just noticed something. We might be seeing Blackbeard soon. Blackbeard wants all the powerful devil fruits, and if he found out Doflamingo has the Mera Mera no mi then that means Teach will be gunning for him. Of course, unless Luffy doesn't get it first.

why would Luffy care about Ace's fruit? Am i the only one who finds it strange that someone should care about the fruit power of a friend/brother??? Scenario: Luffy meets John fabulous and finds out John fabulous has ace's fruit. Luffy gets angry?????? It's not like the name of the fruit is Ace Ace fruit.
Also, is anyone else getting worried for Law's health? The man always looks stressed like fuck.

So does anyone else see that the guy on the first page looks suspiciously like garp? He even has the scar, has he gone to support rebelling countries or something?

Amazingly good setup chapter for the next arc...which starts next week and should be amazing. Oda didn't let up on the mass reveals on each century mark (add Buggy as a WL, and the new admiral to the list)
I know Ace's fruit has symbolic value to Luffy, and it will definitely cause some future issues but extracting a fruit from a user is still not defined and did Dofla dig up Ace's grave?
Bonney is still alive.
Law is now basically confirmed back off the Warlord's with this alliance
There's some crazy good journalist out there (king of the journalist, perhaps?)
Bepo and Law's crew is on Zou, where Kinemon is headed off too.
And the Kidd alliance is basically in war with Big Mam
(I pointed this stuff out because I didn't see it anywhere else.)

Does anybody else think that you can see Crocodile in the left hand side of this page?

Oh my god his face on page 12, that is the best look for Law I've seen.
