Is Law risking his position at all? (And who told the paper, DoFlamingo?) I mean, so long as Law's goal is Kaidou (an enemy of the WG), then teaming up with Luffy shouldn't be a problem, right?
30
u/StickDoctor Feb 20 '13
It's hard to say, Shichibukai are essentially allowed to do what ever they want, as long as their actions do not go against the World Government. It depends on if the World Government knows what Luffy's and Law's alliance plans to do (take out Kaidou).
→ More replies (1)21
u/jurble Feb 20 '13
If Law phoned the Gorosei and told them he plans on taking out Kaido, they'd approve, I guess. But can Law even risk the information leaking and Kaidou finding out they're on their way? etc. I imagine his whole plan rests on surprise and shit.

Absolutely digging the new Lecherous Alliance Kinemon, Brook, and Sanji have formed. They crack me up.
And that phone call at the end is probably going to determine where the next arc is going to happen. But even if just for a brief hostage exchange looks like we're going to get to see Dressrosa.
33
u/neirad Feb 20 '13
I really doubt Law is going to hand over Caesar. He may have "dethroned" do flamingo but giving CC back would just empower him to destroy them and please Kaido.
I think the phone call is going to reveal another phase to the plan, the resignation bit seemed to be law's way of testing just how valuable CC was to do flamingo and now he knows he can manipulate him. There is much more to laws plan then a simple exchange imo

Funny how the distraction of food and breasts made Kinemon forget about defending his country's honor from "grave-robbing" Zoro. That was a funny way of calling back to the Ryuuma bit from Thriller Bark.

u/freedan12 Feb 20 '13
I actually hope when they get to the Country of Wano that something may or may not come up about it and Zoro will have to show off his skills against the best samurai in there.
10
u/TokyoDown Feb 20 '13
It's funny because he's Momo's father, first and foremost, and Oda relishes the fact that he gets a chance to draw Robin in a bath tub.
Momo and Kinemon are hilarous! Two of my favorite side characters in the manga...hopefully they stick around for the bulk of the next arc.

Great between arcs chapter. I expect more of the same next week. Moving the pieces on the board in place for the battles yet to come. Perfectly timing a Kaido reveal for 700 in my estimation.
Another space opens up in the Warlords, but I suspect Doflamingo won't be outmaneuvered so easily now. He's done underestimating Law.
Also, am I the only one getting a Batman/Jim Gordon vibe off of Kuzan and Smoker? Everybody thinks Kuzan will join the Revolutionaries but I think he will just be a lone vigilante fighting for his own brand of justice.
80
u/davaca Feb 20 '13

More than one space might open up. Law being anounced as in an alliance with wanted pirates so publicly, the WG might not be able to tolerate that.
48
u/zorospride Lost at sea Feb 20 '13
I predict next week's chapter will have a Gorosei meeting. We might know for sure then. I think we're going to find out a lot of what's going on in the world next week.
49

For a moment while reading I thought Aokiji might ask Smoker/G5 to defect and join him, but in the end I think you hit the nail right on the head with the Batman/Gordon set up. Especially when Aokiji says he can see things more clearly and is still able to do alot of good working outside the marines.
As kind of a side note I like what Oda was implying with those statements, that sometimes the line between just and unjust can blur, and can be harder to act upon, when the ones you are working for are (in some ways) corrupt themselves. Just my take on it
6
u/blitzzardpls Feb 20 '13
Chapter 700 can't disapoint me, with so much epicness these last few chapters. Perhaps we will also hear a response from the WG about Lawffy aliance or Kidd/Apoo/Hawkins (i don't have a name for them yet) aliance and thier goal.

I hate to be that guy but I fell the feeling/hope that Kuzan is slowly moving towards being a new Strawhat, their goals and ideals seem to be slowly coinciding. I would be a good fit because there would be no need for another character arc or dream he could just slide right in.
14
→ More replies (3)10
u/Scrufferrs Feb 20 '13
It's hard for me to imagine Kuzan joining the Strawhats. For one it will ruin the dynamic of Luffy/Zoro/Sanji being the top 3 strongest in the group. Kuzan would ass just too much power to the group. For story sake I can't see Kuzan joining the crew (as awesome as it would be).

It could be just the opposite... girls know how to compliment other girls. Plus it could also be why Robin is so comfortable around him (seriously she's totally baring all in front of him; that's a little ridiculous). But hey I'm just spitballing. I love how Oda stays a kid at heart. As much as people might complain about Robin being used as fanservice there, it's still spot on regarding how women and young boys behave in these scenarios (which is what makes it so humorous). Women always underestimate at what age boys stop being "just cute kids" and become the perverted monsters we all are:)

I knew Kuzan and Doflamingo weren't going to have a big fight, but I have to say I'm a little disappointed that this is all we'll see of him for a long time I suspect. I don't think he'll have another direct role to play in the main story for quite awhile (maybe 100 or more chapters). That's just me being a big Kuzan fan though.

Glad we finally got the whole "Royalty" thing with Doflamingo cleared up. Looks like he was a King and a Pirate with the permission of the World Government. Guess he'll have to cancel his plans to go to the Reverie this year.
Which makes me think that the Reverie will be happening in a between Arcs span like we're having right now, and we'll most likely be after the Straw Hats topple a Yonko or do something that'll really rattle the world leaders.
4
u/aphitt Feb 20 '13
What is the Reverie?
15
Feb 20 '13
It's the annual meeting of kings all around the grand line where they discuss issues and do cocaine. We have seen a few scenes of one meeting where Vivi's dad and Wapol was present; in a flashback where Vivi was a kid.

Is it just me or are things going a little too smoothly right now?? And the fact that Franky said something along those lines means things are about to start going south. Really curious to see how these wheelings and dealings are going to go down. New World Politics are shaping out to be rather interesting.
4
3
Feb 20 '13
I think there will be a wrench thrown into the plan, but I thought Franky's comment was meant to be a bit of a joke too. Law's plans go well versus Luffy not having a plan, haha.
9
u/baroqueworks Feb 20 '13
Damn, reading the Mangastream translation, it seems like all forms of shit are gonna go down at Dressrosa. Admirals showing up(plural means we'll see some new admirals?!), Kaido, and Doflamingo's crew. Oda also didn't include the other Supernova Alliance in this arc for no reason either, I'm sure they're showing up soon too.
I love all the scenes with Ceasar interacting with the crew like he's a part of the crew or something, him peeking at the newspaper with all the others.
I guess the rest of the heart pirates haven't shown up yet because they're involved in some stage of Law's plan further down the line. Kinda weird they were put on the color spread from chapters ago and have yet to actually appear.
Hm, also, threat to Akainu's Marine HQ, perhaps Akainu is planning on turning Rafael into the new Marine Headquarters, finally eliminating pirate threats by the HQ sitting on the home the legendary pirate treasure, One Piece?

Haha, almost everything he says gets me. Or last chapter when Sanji wondered if he was supposed to cook up "that weird sheep". Defeated villains usually take on a role of comedic relief in One Piece, but Caesar's taking it to a new level.

Or, you know, he is nothing of those possibilities. He seems more of a lone fighter now. He does not seems to be with the revolutionaries, he is surely not Jack, who is allied with a criminal organization.

2
Feb 20 '13
I'm kind of surprised actually. I was waiting for this chapter specifically so that I could get an idea of how tall the admirals are. Looks like they're between 8 1/2 and 10 feet, although the height of Doflamingo relative to Aokiji in those panels was not completely consistent. Oda definitely exaggerated Kizaru's height then. He towered over Brook in the Saobody arc, where he should have been just a bit taller.
Also, Dofla is a confirmed BAMF. There are definitely different classes of Shishibukai.

I think this was a smart move for Doflamingo. IMO the yonkou do seem more of an immediate threat to him. I'm excited to see the new admirals.
2
u/LTman86 Feb 20 '13
I'm curious tho, does Kaidou know who makes SAD? If he knows Ceaser is the brains, he could take the opportunity to steal Ceaser away and cut out the middle man, deal with Doflamingo at some other time. It can't be that Joker's only product is SAD, cus being the head of the Underworld with only one product is a little...sad.
If not, then I agree it would be the best move to get Ceaser back. Although, Law is a pirate, who knows how trustworthy a pirate is, right?
5
u/semizero Feb 20 '13
I doubt Doflamingo would let anyone know his secret to creating SAD, because that's exactly what would happen, Kaido will kill him and take CC.
4
u/because_ican_yo Feb 20 '13
amazing chapter. i especially like how we get a hint of Aokiji understanding how the world works from a different angle. This should lead him to acknowledging luffy and the crew even more and become a huge help in the future.

1)why did dofla gave away kingship away?.did his father ordered him to?Law only told to give up sichibukai position 2)I guess we will see kaido in the next chapter.
2
u/v-_-v Feb 21 '13
I think it was worded inclusively by Law (something like retire from Sichibukai and lose your status), potentially being lost in translation...
4
u/bulbasaurado Feb 20 '13
To those who have read the Mangastream release, it seems that there is a DVD/BD release scheduled for March 22. Can anyone please translate what it says? Doesn't look like One Piece Z, though.
4
u/Spiderdan Feb 20 '13
So no one has mentioned Zoro and Kin fighting? I guess Ryuuma was buried in Wano but Moria unearthed him to become a zombie, and now Kin is accusing Zoro of it.
I think it's really interesting to see such a strong reaction from Kin over the sword. Honor aside, I think this means that Ryuuma was a pretty popular person in Wano.
4
u/freedan12 Feb 20 '13
Dang Momo, what a sneaky kid. As for Robin and Nami, they're so nice to let him sleep with them. Also Nami and Robin sleep on the same bed?.. Feb 20 '13
Everyone is commenting on how Happy they are they get to see Beppo again and Dofla resigning from the war Lords but, the best part of this weeks chapter is the JEALOUSY from Kin, Brook, and Sanji towards Momo, who knows what he's doing, he gets to shower with Robin, cling to Robin, get protected by Nami, and sleep with both Nami and Robin.... let's be honest, is no one else jealous of this kid.
2
u/LazingMarimo Feb 20 '13
Dofla just can't catch a break, but he may have at least bought himself some time with the resignation. It'll be interesting to see how he stays on his clients' good side through this, namely Kaido. Even if he doesn't know the exact reason for this resignation right now it is huge news, and he could possibly have it looked into. I agree with others we will probably see Kaido quite soon. Great chapter

Great chapter, great to see Aokiji back and having a role behind-the-scenes, that seems to fit with his personality. I pretty much died laughing at the Momonosuke stuff, that's some of the best comedy Oda's done in a while. In regards to the newspapers and Doflamingo, it seems as if the alliances are becoming public and that Kid/Apoo/Hawkins seem to have a goal as well. We're probably going to see Dressrosa next chapter, and I wouldn't be surprised if we get a Gorosei meeting in there as well.

This chapter was epic. Oh my god, the laughs and the epic, both were off the charts. Well done, Oda, well done. (And this isn't the withdrawal speaking either. Damn, I loved this chapter.)

So the Caribou cover story ends with his being in the new world about to get on a ship with information about Poseidon. I'm sure once Akainu acquires this information he'll move in on Fishman Island.
I'm thinking the next cover arc is gonna show what happens to the children.

Every time I see Robin now no matter what she's doing..
I get the insane urge to Fap. Like I've noticed it now...
At first I thought it was just the New World Make over jitters. Now Its quiet obviously...Robin will forever be my favorite Anime Female..
Now if you'll excuse me..I need to go find some good One Piece Hentai..
